Friendbuy: Referrals & Loyalty vs Shopney ‑ Mobile App Builderfor Shopify (2026)
Friendbuy: Referrals & Loyalty and Shopney ‑ Mobile App Builder both aim to enhance customer loyalty, but they approach it from drastically different angles. Friendbuy focuses on incentivizing word-of-mouth marketing and repeat purchases through referral and loyalty programs directly integrated into the Shopify store's website. Their key strength lies in acquisition and retention through structured rewards and referral mechanisms, appealing to merchants seeking to leverage existing customers for growth and reduce customer acquisition costs. Shopney, on the other hand, centers around building a native mobile app for a Shopify store, providing a dedicated, potentially more engaging shopping experience. The fundamental difference lies in the channel: Friendbuy enhances the web store experience, while Shopney creates a new mobile app channel. Shopney's value proposition is primarily centered on delivering a faster, personalized mobile shopping experience with push notification capabilities and enhanced product merchandising, attracting merchants willing to invest in a separate mobile app presence for increased customer engagement and repeat sales, especially among mobile-first shoppers.

Our Verdict
Choosing between Friendbuy and Shopney depends heavily on a merchant's specific needs and strategy. Friendbuy is the better option for merchants who want to leverage the power of referrals and loyalty programs to boost sales directly through their existing Shopify store. It's a cost-effective way to acquire new customers and retain existing ones.
Shopney is ideal for merchants who believe a dedicated mobile app will significantly enhance the customer experience and drive repeat sales, particularly if their customer base is heavily mobile-dependent. However, creating and promoting a mobile app requires a greater initial investment and ongoing effort. For most merchants, Friendbuy likely makes a better initial choice, since it has a lower barrier to entry.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Both apps claim ease of use. Friendbuy automatically injects code, while Shopney offers a no-code mobile app builder. However, the complexity of designing a good mobile app is arguably greater than setting up a referral program.
Which app is better for customer retention?
Both apps aim to improve retention. Friendbuy does so through loyalty rewards, incentivizing repeat purchases. Shopney aims for retention through a smoother mobile experience and push notifications.
Does Friendbuy offer mobile app functionality?
No, Friendbuy focuses on optimizing the website experience for referrals and loyalty. It integrates into Shopify's themes and checkout pages.
Is Shopney a replacement for a loyalty program app?
Not entirely. While Shopney can facilitate customer engagement and potentially lead to more sales, it doesn't offer the specific features of a dedicated loyalty program app like points accumulation and rewards.
Which app has better reporting capabilities?
Friendbuy highlights 'Comprehensive reporting, analytics, and concurrent A/B testing.' Shopney mentions 'Smart tools, insights and tactics to get app installs.' Friendbuy likely offers more detailed reporting on referral and loyalty program performance.
