Gather: Refer a Friend vs Swish (formerly Wishlist King)for Shopify (2026)
Gather: Refer a Friend focuses on leveraging existing customers for acquisition through referral programs. It emphasizes automation and personalization to create a high ROAS referral channel. Gather targets merchants looking to boost sales, generate leads, or grow their newsletter lists by incentivizing customers to refer friends. Swish (formerly Wishlist King), on the other hand, concentrates on enhancing the shopping experience through wishlists. It aims to increase customer engagement and drive conversion by allowing customers to save desired products and receive personalized notifications. Swish is geared towards merchants who want to improve customer satisfaction, gain insights into product demand, and convert potential buyers who aren't immediately ready to purchase. The key distinction lies in the acquisition method: Gather uses referrals, while Swish leverages wishlists as a tool to understand customer intent and nurture sales. While both apps fall under the "Customer loyalty" category, they address different aspects of the customer journey and retention strategy.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking to harness the power of word-of-mouth marketing, Gather: Refer a Friend is the clear choice. Its focus on automation and personalized referral programs makes it ideal for driving sales growth and lead generation through existing customers. However, given the low number of reviews it should be thoroughly tested. Swish (formerly Wishlist King) is better suited for stores prioritizing customer engagement and personalized shopping experiences. It excels at providing shoppers with a convenient way to track desired products and offers valuable insights into customer preferences, ultimately leading to increased sales and satisfaction. If a merchant wants a robust customer database and has the resources to dedicate to referrals, Gather might be the better option.
