Geolocation country redirect vs Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLsfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation country redirect and Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs, while both falling under the Geolocation category on Shopify, serve fundamentally different purposes. Geolocation country redirect focuses on automatically redirecting users to the correct country-specific version of a store based on their location. This caters to merchants with international audiences seeking a localized user experience. On the other hand, Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs provides a way to generate unique URLs that directly add products to the cart and navigate users to the checkout page. This is targeted at merchants leveraging external marketing channels and sales funnels. The major point of differentiation lies in their functionalities: one provides automatic redirection based on geolocation, while the other creates unique checkout URLs for external marketing. Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs positions itself as a tool to optimize sales funnels outside of the Shopify store. However, the lack of reviews and a 0/5 rating raises serious questions about its reliability and usability compared to Geolocation country redirect, which boasts a perfect rating and a small but existing user base. Given the limited data on Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs, it's challenging to assess its actual effectiveness. Its primary value proposition revolves around simplifying the purchase process via direct checkout URLs, appealing to merchants actively employing external advertising, email marketing, or landing pages. Geolocation country redirect's value lies in providing a seamless localized experience for international shoppers.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking to automatically adapt their store to different countries for a seamless localized experience, Geolocation country redirect is the clear choice due to its positive rating and existing user base. The lack of reviews and zero rating for Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs makes it a risky choice, even if the concept of creating unique checkout URLs is appealing.
Upsell Funnels & Checkout URLs might be worth considering *if* a merchant is heavily invested in external marketing funnels (e.g., using ClickFunnels or Leadpages) and willing to take a chance on an unproven app. However, the risk is substantial. In most cases, Geolocation country redirect appears to be the safer and more reliable option in 2026.
