Geolocation & Markets—Selecty vs LockOn‑ Restrict Storefor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and LockOn‑ Restrict Store, while both categorized under 'Geolocation' within the Shopify app store, serve fundamentally different purposes. Selecty focuses on enhancing the international customer experience by dynamically adjusting content based on the visitor's location, aiming to boost global sales through features like currency and language switching, geolocation redirects, and market recommendations. It is explicitly built for merchants expanding into, or already operating within, multiple markets using Shopify Markets and Global-e Managed Markets. In contrast, LockOn‑ Restrict Store concentrates on access control and content restriction within a single Shopify store. It's designed to protect store content, limit access to specific products or pages, and prevent unauthorized users (including bots and spammers) from viewing or purchasing items. The core difference lies in their target user. Selecty aims to attract international customers and increase global sales, making it ideal for businesses seeking to optimize their Shopify Markets or Global-e Managed Markets presence. LockOn, on the other hand, is geared towards merchants needing tight control over who can access their store content, likely due to sensitive products, exclusive offerings, or a desire to prevent bots. Selecty is proactive in attracting and converting international sales. LockOn is reactive and protective, preventing unwanted store access.

Our Verdict
If your goal is to optimize the international shopping experience and boost global sales through Shopify Markets or Global-e Managed Markets, Geolocation & Markets—Selecty is the clear choice. Its focus on geolocation redirects, currency/language selectors, and market recommendations directly addresses the needs of merchants operating in multiple international markets. The higher rating and significantly more reviews also suggest broader user satisfaction and reliability.
However, if your primary concern is controlling access to your store content, protecting sensitive information, or preventing unauthorized users from viewing or purchasing products, then LockOn‑ Restrict Store is the more appropriate solution. Its robust access control features, including password protection, page lock, and restriction by location or customer history, provide the necessary tools to secure your store. The smaller review count might indicate a more niche audience or a newer app, but its functionality directly caters to merchants needing stringent security measures.
