Geolocation & Markets—Selecty vs Spicy 404 Customizerfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and Spicy 404 Customizer, while sharing the 'Geolocation' category on Shopify, cater to fundamentally different needs. Selecty focuses on international expansion and localization, providing tools to automatically adapt the store experience based on the visitor's location and preferences. Its core value proposition is increasing global sales by offering a localized shopping experience, complete with currency, language, and country selectors. In contrast, Spicy 404 Customizer addresses a much narrower concern: customizing the 404 error page to retain customers who encounter broken links or incorrect URLs. The two apps target distinct user segments. Selecty is designed for merchants with an international customer base, or those seeking to expand globally, looking to optimize their Shopify Markets or Global-e Managed Markets performance. Spicy 404 Customizer, on the other hand, is for any Shopify store owner concerned about providing a better user experience, even when visitors land on error pages. One is pro-actively helping increase sales, while the other is designed to mitigate the effects of a common site error. The key difference is that Selecty is actively increasing sales by attracting customers globally, while Spicy 404 Customizer tries to keep current customers on your store.

Our Verdict
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty is the clear choice for Shopify merchants actively targeting international markets and looking to leverage geolocation to personalize the shopping experience. Its ability to automatically redirect users based on location, browser language, and other factors makes it a powerful tool for increasing global sales. However, Spicy 404 Customizer is a reasonable option for improving customer experience; while it has no reviews, it could be a useful tool for retaining customers that happen upon broken links.
Spicy 404 Customizer is suitable for all Shopify stores, especially those with less technical knowledge, seeking a quick and simple way to improve the 404 error page experience. In most cases, especially with the absence of any social proof, Selecty would be the better investment to grow your business, whereas Spicy 404 Customizer is a small optional quality of life improvement.
