Geolocation & Markets—Selecty vs Store Fence: Country Blockerfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and Store Fence: Country Blocker, while both fitting under the 'Geolocation' category in the Shopify app store, cater to fundamentally different merchant needs. Geolocation & Markets—Selecty focuses on *expanding* sales globally by optimizing the shopping experience for international customers through features like currency and language selectors, geolocation redirects, and market recommendations. It's designed to help merchants effectively manage Shopify Markets and Global-e Managed Markets. Conversely, Store Fence: Country Blocker aims to *restrict* access and enhance security by blocking unwanted traffic from specific countries or IP addresses. It prioritizes preventing content theft, bot traffic, and other malicious activities. Selecty positions itself as a growth tool for international sales, boasting a strong 5/5 rating based on 262 reviews, indicating significant user satisfaction. Store Fence: Country Blocker, on the other hand, lacks any reviews or ratings at the time of this comparison, presenting a higher risk for merchants considering its adoption. The key differentiator lies in their core functionality: Selecty focuses on optimization for international customers, while Store Fence focuses on security and access control. Therefore, a merchant must clearly define their primary goal, whether to expand into new markets or to protect their existing store from unwanted traffic, when choosing between the two apps.

Our Verdict
For merchants actively utilizing Shopify Markets or Global-e and seeking to optimize the international shopping experience, Geolocation & Markets—Selecty is the clear choice. Its features directly address the challenges of serving customers in different countries, offering tools for currency conversion, language selection, and personalized market recommendations. The high rating and positive reviews further support its effectiveness.
However, if a merchant's primary concern is protecting their store from unwanted traffic, bot activity, or specific regions, Store Fence: Country Blocker is the relevant option. While the lack of reviews raises concerns, its focus on security features like country/IP blocking and bot prevention may be crucial for merchants facing these specific threats. It's important to note that a merchant could potentially use both apps in conjunction: Store Fence to block malicious traffic and Selecty to optimize the experience for legitimate international customers.
Common Questions
Can both apps be used simultaneously?
Yes, theoretically. Geolocation & Markets—Selecty optimizes the shopping experience for legitimate international traffic, while Store Fence: Country Blocker restricts access to unwanted traffic. They address different, though sometimes overlapping, needs.
Is Geolocation & Markets—Selecty only for merchants using Shopify Markets?
No, while optimized for Shopify Markets and Global-e Managed Markets, its features like currency and language selectors can be useful for any store selling internationally, even without using those platforms. However, the market recommendation features would be less relevant.
What are the potential drawbacks of using Store Fence: Country Blocker?
Overly restrictive blocking rules could inadvertently block legitimate customers, potentially harming sales. Careful configuration and monitoring of visit logs are crucial.
How does Geolocation & Markets—Selecty handle VPN users?
Geolocation by IP address is susceptible to inaccuracies when users are using VPNs. The app likely provides options for manual market selection as a fallback for VPN users.
Why does Store Fence: Country Blocker have no reviews?
There could be many reasons, including the app being new, having a niche audience, or experiencing a lack of user engagement/feedback. The absence of reviews does not inherently mean the app is bad, but it does increase the risk for potential users.
