Geolocation & Markets—Selecty vs Ultimate Country Blockerfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and Ultimate Country Blocker are both Shopify apps employing geolocation technology, but they serve fundamentally different purposes. Selecty focuses on *enabling* international sales and enhancing the customer experience by automatically detecting and adapting to the visitor's location. It provides features like currency conversion, language selection, and market recommendations. In contrast, Ultimate Country Blocker is a security and fraud prevention tool designed to *restrict* access based on geographic location, VPN usage, and IP addresses. Its goal is to protect stores from unwanted traffic, fraud, and bandwidth waste. Selecty aims to maximize global reach and conversion by tailoring the store experience to international customers. It is ideal for merchants actively pursuing international expansion through Shopify Markets or Global-e. Ultimate Country Blocker, on the other hand, is best suited for merchants experiencing issues with fraudulent orders, bot traffic, or those needing to control access to their store for regulatory or business reasons. The fundamental difference lies in their approach: Selecty welcomes international visitors and optimizes their experience, while Ultimate Country Blocker actively blocks unwanted visitors.

Our Verdict
The choice between Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and Ultimate Country Blocker depends entirely on the merchant's specific needs. If the goal is to expand internationally, optimize the customer experience for international visitors, and leverage Shopify Markets, then Selecty is the clear choice. Its features directly address the challenges of global ecommerce and aim to increase conversions.
However, if the primary concern is security, fraud prevention, or controlling access to the store based on geographic location, Ultimate Country Blocker is the more appropriate solution. While it currently lacks reviews, its feature set targets common security concerns, such as VPNs, proxies, and IP blacklisting. Therefore, a merchant struggling with fraud or unwanted traffic should prioritize Ultimate Country Blocker, while those seeking international growth should opt for Selecty.
