Geolocation & Markets—Selecty vs Unicorn Geo‑Blockerfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty and Unicorn Geo‑Blocker are both Shopify apps utilizing geolocation, but they cater to entirely different needs. Selecty focuses on *enabling* international sales and enhancing the customer experience by localizing content and currency. It aims to attract customers globally by tailoring the store to their location. Unicorn Geo‑Blocker, conversely, centers on *preventing* access to the store from specific geographic locations, aiming to minimize fraudulent transactions and comply with regulations regarding the sale of restricted products. Selecty's positive rating and substantial number of reviews suggest a well-received app, while Unicorn Geo‑Blocker's low rating and minimal reviews might indicate usability or satisfaction issues. Selecty's feature set is geared towards facilitating international expansion through automated market recommendations, currency and language switching, and geolocation-based redirects. Unicorn Geo-Blocker offers a simple geo-blocking system with anti-spoofing technology to block specific countries. This fundamental difference in approach—growth versus protection—defines which app is more suitable for a particular merchant. Selecty's integration with Shopify Markets and Global-e managed markets sets it apart, suggesting it's aimed at merchants actively using or planning to use these platforms. Essentially, one app is a tool for global sales expansion, while the other is a security and compliance measure for controlling access to your store based on location.

Our Verdict
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty is the clear choice for Shopify merchants seeking to expand their reach internationally and provide a localized shopping experience. Its high rating, numerous reviews, and comprehensive feature set make it a strong contender for businesses wanting to leverage geolocation for growth. The integration with Shopify Markets and Global-e is a significant advantage for users of those platforms.
Unicorn Geo‑Blocker, while serving a niche purpose, is only suitable for merchants specifically needing to block access from certain countries, likely due to regulatory requirements or previous fraudulent activity. The low rating and limited reviews suggest potential usability or satisfaction concerns. For most merchants focused on growth and positive customer experience, Selecty is the superior option.
