GoGenerosity ‑ Donations vs TreeMates Plant‑A‑Treefor Shopify (2026)
GoGenerosity - Donations and TreeMates Plant-A-Tree both fall under the Shopify Donations category, but they approach the concept differently. GoGenerosity positions itself as a revenue-boosting tool that simultaneously supports various causes, offering options to convert donations into gift cards redeemable at the merchant's store or directly send donations to partner charities. It emphasizes ease of use, social impact strategy, and customer retention. TreeMates Plant-A-Tree, on the other hand, focuses exclusively on climate protection projects, allowing customers to donate to selected certified initiatives and receive a personalized donation certificate. Its description targets a German-speaking audience (using 'Ermögliche deinen Kunden' and the 'Plant-A-Tree Widget'). The fundamental difference lies in the breadth of charitable causes supported and the approach to donation use. GoGenerosity offers flexibility to support multiple charities and potentially benefit the merchant through gift card redemption, while TreeMates concentrates on a specific cause (climate protection) and provides a donation certificate, potentially attracting customers focused on environmental responsibility. The apps also differ significantly in user feedback. GoGenerosity has a perfect 5/5 rating with 19 reviews, suggesting positive early adoption, while TreeMates has no ratings or reviews, indicating either a very new app or a lack of user engagement.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing a broad social impact strategy and potentially seeking a revenue boost through gift card redemption, GoGenerosity is the stronger choice due to its positive reviews, flexible approach, and emphasis on ease of use. Its established user base suggests a more reliable and well-supported app.
However, if a merchant is solely focused on climate action and wants to offer customers the opportunity to contribute to certified climate protection projects, TreeMates Plant-A-Tree could be a viable option, especially if they cater to a German-speaking audience. However, the complete lack of reviews suggests a higher risk, and further investigation into the certification of climate projects is warranted. The merchant might want to wait until TreeMates gathers some reviews before committing.
Common Questions
Does GoGenerosity increase revenue more than TreeMates Plant-A-Tree?
GoGenerosity has the potential to increase revenue directly by converting donations into store gift cards, a feature TreeMates lacks. However, both apps could indirectly increase revenue by attracting socially conscious customers.
Which app is easier to install and use?
GoGenerosity explicitly states 'No code needed', implying a very straightforward setup. TreeMates states it's a theme-compatible widget. Without user reviews, it's hard to compare the two apps on installation. We believe the GoGenerosity install will be more straight forward as its an established app.
Are both apps suitable for all types of businesses?
GoGenerosity, with its broader appeal and flexible donation options, is likely suitable for a wider range of businesses. TreeMates is best suited for businesses aligned with environmental values and potentially targeting a German-speaking market.
Which app offers better customer support?
Based on the available data, it's impossible to definitively say. However, GoGenerosity's established user base and positive reviews suggest a more mature support system compared to TreeMates, which has no reviews.
How do I know if the charities supported by each app are legitimate?
GoGenerosity supports multiple charities and allows for changes, so it's the merchant's responsibility to ensure their legitimacy. TreeMates emphasizes 'nur ausgewählte zertifizierte Klimaschutzprojekte,' implying a vetting process, but merchants should independently verify the certifications.
