Gusto ‑ Payroll & HR vs MS Barcode Labels & Generatorfor Shopify (2026)
Gusto ‑ Payroll & HR and MS Barcode Labels & Generator are both Shopify apps operating within the 'Selling in person' and 'Retail' categories. However, they cater to drastically different needs. Gusto appears to be focused on payroll and human resource management, though limited information is available beyond its name and perfect rating based on a very small sample size. MS Barcode Labels & Generator, on the other hand, is clearly positioned as a barcode and SKU generation tool for retail businesses. It boasts a significantly higher number of reviews (168) and offers a comprehensive suite of features for designing, generating, and printing barcode labels, integrating directly with Stocky for streamlined inventory management. The key differentiator lies in their core functionality. Gusto likely manages employee compensation and HR tasks, addressing the administrative side of running a retail business. MS Barcode Labels & Generator directly supports product labeling and inventory tracking, which are essential for efficient point-of-sale operations and inventory control. While both contribute to the overall success of a retail operation, they tackle entirely different problem spaces.

Our Verdict
For a merchant needing assistance with human resources and payroll, Gusto ‑ Payroll & HR is the logical choice, assuming it lives up to its high rating and fulfills the promises its name suggests. However, the extremely low number of reviews necessitates caution. For a merchant needing a robust and well-regarded solution for creating and printing barcode labels, especially if they use Stocky, MS Barcode Labels & Generator is the clear winner. Its high review count and feature set, including barcode format support, label design capabilities, and printer compatibility, make it a valuable tool for any retail business focusing on in-person sales and inventory management.
Ultimately, the choice depends entirely on the merchant's specific needs. While Gusto may be a good option for payroll and HR, the lack of substantial user feedback makes it a riskier choice compared to the well-established MS Barcode Labels & Generator for barcode and labeling requirements.
