GV: Gift Cards & Store Credit vs Seal Subscriptions Appfor Shopify (2026)
GV: Gift Cards & Store Credit and Seal Subscriptions App both aim to improve customer retention and increase revenue, but they do so through very different mechanisms. GV focuses on leveraging gift cards and store credit as incentives for repeat purchases and attracting new customers through gifting. It highlights features like customizable gift card designs, personalized messaging, and bulk issuance for loyalty programs. The Seal Subscriptions App, on the other hand, is designed to facilitate subscription-based business models, enabling merchants to offer recurring products and services. Its strengths lie in subscription management, flexible discount options, and robust analytics. The primary difference lies in their core functionalities. GV is ideal for businesses looking to boost immediate cash flow and attract new customers through gift cards, focusing on gift-giving and loyalty programs. Seal Subscriptions, in contrast, targets businesses aiming for predictable recurring revenue through subscriptions and subscription boxes. The significantly higher number of reviews (1994 vs 80) and a slightly higher rating (4.9 vs 4.6) suggest Seal Subscriptions has a larger user base and potentially a more established presence in the Shopify app ecosystem.

Our Verdict
For businesses focused on offering tangible products and generating quick sales, especially during holidays and special occasions, GV: Gift Cards & Store Credit is the better choice. It allows for personalized gifting experiences and provides tools for rewarding loyal customers with store credit.
However, if the business model is suited for recurring revenue through subscriptions – such as curated boxes, recurring product deliveries, or service subscriptions – Seal Subscriptions App is the clear winner. Its focus on subscription management, flexible discount options, and churn reduction tools make it a more effective solution for building a sustainable subscription-based business.
Common Questions
Which app is better for customer retention?
Both apps address customer retention, but in different ways. GV fosters loyalty through rewards and personalized gifting, while Seal Subscriptions focuses on recurring engagement through subscriptions. The 'better' app depends on the specific business model.
Which app is easier to set up?
While both claim easy setup, GV's simpler functionality around gift cards suggests a potentially quicker initial setup compared to the more complex subscription management features of Seal Subscriptions.
Can I use both apps together?
Potentially, but their functionalities are largely distinct. A business could offer both gift cards (GV) and subscriptions (Seal), but it would require managing two separate systems.
Which app provides better analytics?
Seal Subscriptions explicitly mentions "real-time analytics" for tracking revenue and optimizing performance, suggesting a more robust analytics offering compared to GV.
Which app is more suitable for a new business?
It depends on the business model. If the business aims to sell a one-time purchase or wants customers to try out their service, GV may be a better choice. If it wants to create a recurring revenue model, Seal is a better choice.
