Helpdesk + Live chat DeskXpand vs Notch – Customer Support Suitefor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, Shopify merchants choosing a helpdesk app face a contrast between Helpdesk + Live chat DeskXpand and Notch – Customer Support Suite. DeskXpand positions itself as a DIY, feature-rich solution for merchants who want to manage their own customer support in-house. It emphasizes consolidating support channels (email, chat, social media) and providing tools like canned responses and shared inboxes to improve agent efficiency. In contrast, Notch positions itself as a fully managed customer support service, outsourcing support operations to their AI and expert teams. Notch aims to free up merchants from managing customer support altogether, promising increased customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The primary difference lies in whether the merchant wants to actively manage their support or delegate it entirely.

Our Verdict
DeskXpand appears suitable for established Shopify businesses with existing customer support teams looking to streamline their operations and centralize communication. It offers tools for enhanced agent productivity. However, the lack of ratings and reviews suggests caution and a need for thorough testing. Notch, on the other hand, is geared towards businesses prioritizing growth and customer satisfaction who prefer to outsource customer support entirely. The 5/5 rating suggests positive early experiences, although based on a very small sample size. For merchants willing to invest in a fully managed solution and delegate customer interactions, Notch presents a potentially attractive option.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Notch is likely easier to set up since they manage the entire support operation. DeskXpand requires configuration and ongoing management by the merchant.
Which app provides 24/7 support?
Notch guarantees 24/7 support with their fully automated chat. DeskXpand relies on the merchant's support team to provide 24/7 coverage.
Which app is better for merchants with a small budget?
It's difficult to say without pricing information. DeskXpand's self-managed approach *might* be cheaper initially, but that doesn't factor in the costs of hiring and managing a support team. Notch has ongoing service fees, and it's unclear which would be cheaper over the long term.
Which app is better for handling a large volume of customer inquiries?
Notch, with its AI-powered automation and expert team, is likely better equipped to handle a large volume of inquiries efficiently. DeskXpand's capacity depends on the size and effectiveness of the merchant's in-house team.
Which app offers more control over the customer support process?
DeskXpand offers more control as it allows the merchant to manage all aspects of customer support in-house. Notch relinquishes control to their AI and expert teams.
