Our Verdict
For merchants struggling with manually managing a large inventory and wanting a set-it-and-forget-it solution, Hide Sold Out by Stock-y-phi is the better choice. Its automated hiding and republishing features, combined with multi-location support, can save significant time and effort. The redirection and alerts features are also valuable. However, merchants who prioritize actively influencing customer behavior with real-time stock displays and customized messaging will find Pi ‑ Inventory Stock Level more appealing.
If the main goal is to clearly communicate product availability and encourage purchases through urgency and transparency, Pi is the more suitable app. Stockyphi is better suited for merchants who prefer to remove out of stock items entirely from the customer's view.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Both apps claim to require no coding, implying similar ease of use. However, given the broader feature set of Stockyphi (redirection, alerts), initial configuration may take slightly longer compared to Pi's primarily visual customization.
Does either app support backordering?
Based on the descriptions, neither app explicitly supports backordering. Stockyphi focuses on hiding and republishing, while Pi shows current stock levels. Functionality for backorders would require an additional module or integration.
Which app is better for a dropshipping store?
Both apps could be useful for dropshipping, depending on the merchant's priorities. Pi could increase customer confidence by displaying inventory levels sourced from the supplier. Stockyphi can automate the process of hiding products which dropshippers no longer have access to.
Which app is better for stores selling digital products?
Neither app is ideally suited for digital products as they are designed to track physical inventory levels. These apps would be most beneficial if the digital product had a limited supply element to it. Digital product stores would have little need for these.
If my products have very low stock levels, which app is more beneficial?
Pi ‑ Inventory Stock Level would be more beneficial as it provides visual queues to the customer that the stock level is low and they should buy quickly before its gone. This creates urgency for the customer.
