HIKO Social Login vs OTP Login with Phonefor Shopify (2026)
HIKO Social Login and OTP Login with Phone are both highly-rated Shopify apps focusing on streamlining account creation and login processes, but they cater to different needs. HIKO Social Login emphasizes providing a variety of social login options alongside email links and aims to collect essential customer information. It targets merchants who want to reduce friction in account creation by leveraging existing social profiles, enhance personalization, and integrate with marketing platforms. A potential drawback of HIKO is that only legacy customer accounts are supported, possibly indicating that it is geared towards older themes. OTP Login with Phone, on the other hand, prioritizes security and a passwordless experience using one-time passwords (OTPs) delivered via phone or email. It's focused on providing a quick and secure login flow, especially on crucial conversion points like Buy Now and Checkout buttons. OTP Login with Phone is designed for merchants prioritizing security and a streamlined checkout experience. It offers more control over OTP settings and account field customization, allowing merchants to tailor the login process to their specific requirements. Its strength lies in its focus on OTP delivery and the ability to place OTP prompts at strategic points in the customer journey. HIKO Social Login's strength is in its comprehensive collection of social login options and integration with marketing platforms, however, it is best suited for stores only using legacy customer accounts. The flexible integration options for APIs and Hydrogen might benefit more advanced developers who need even more customization, but most typical users might not use these.

Our Verdict
For merchants aiming to boost customer acquisition through streamlined social logins and connect with popular marketing platforms and are using legacy customer accounts, HIKO Social Login is the better choice. Its vast array of social login options and integrations provide a strong foundation for personalized marketing efforts. However, if you're focused on enhancing security with a passwordless experience and optimizing the checkout flow through OTP verification, especially at the 'Buy Now' or checkout stage, then OTP Login with Phone is the superior solution. It prioritizes a secure and convenient login process, which can ultimately lead to increased conversions.
A key consideration should be whether legacy customer accounts are supported, which appears to be a limitation of HIKO Social Login and would sway the decision towards OTP Login with Phone for newer themes or those not using legacy customer accounts. The choice ultimately depends on which aspect of the account creation and login process you want to optimize most: ease of social signup and integration with marketing platforms, or a more secure and streamlined passwordless checkout process using OTP.
Common Questions
Which app is better for reducing cart abandonment?
OTP Login with Phone is likely better for reducing cart abandonment as it offers OTP prompts directly on the 'Buy Now' and checkout buttons, providing a seamless and secure login experience at the point of conversion. HIKO Social Login doesn't offer the same targeted OTP integration.
Which app offers more social login options?
HIKO Social Login explicitly states it supports 20+ social media logins, whereas OTP Login with Phone does not focus on social logins, making HIKO the clear choice for merchants wanting a wide range of social options.
Which app is easier to customize?
Both apps offer customization, but they focus on different aspects. HIKO Social Login emphasizes customizing the login interface, while OTP Login with Phone focuses on customizing OTP settings and account fields. The 'easier' app depends on the specific customization needs.
Which app is better for capturing customer contact information?
Both apps allow gathering customer information. HIKO directly gathers 'essential' information like phone numbers, while OTP Login with Phone allows customizing account fields, implying a more flexible approach to collecting various types of data.
What are the key security differences between the apps?
OTP Login with Phone focuses on passwordless authentication using one-time passwords, enhancing security by eliminating the risk of password-related vulnerabilities. HIKO Social Login relies on the security of the social media platforms themselves and while it utilizes email links, it is less centrally focused on authentication security.
