Hosted Email vs Notch – Customer Support Suitefor Shopify (2026)
Hosted Email and Notch – Customer Support Suite both address aspects of customer communication for Shopify merchants, but target fundamentally different needs. Hosted Email focuses on providing professional-looking email addresses associated with a merchant's domain, emphasizing brand credibility and control over internal communication. It's a self-service solution for merchants who want to manage their email in-house. Notch, on the other hand, offers a comprehensive, fully managed customer support service, leveraging AI and human experts to handle all customer inquiries. The key difference lies in the level of involvement required from the merchant. Hosted Email requires the merchant to actively manage their email communications, while Notch aims to completely offload customer support operations. Hosted Email highlights features like staff control and spam protection, while Notch emphasizes 24/7 AI-powered chat, seamless platform integration, and data-driven insights. The choice between the two depends largely on a merchant's preferred level of involvement in customer support and their willingness to outsource this function.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking to enhance their brand image by using professional email addresses and maintaining control over their email communications, Hosted Email is the better choice. It provides a simple solution to avoid using generic email addresses like Gmail or Hotmail. However, for merchants experiencing rapid growth or struggling to manage customer inquiries effectively, Notch – Customer Support Suite offers a compelling solution. By fully outsourcing customer support to AI and human experts, Notch allows merchants to focus on core business operations and revenue generation.
Merchants must also consider the review counts. While Notch has a perfect rating, it's based on significantly fewer reviews (4) compared to Hosted Email (31). This means Notch's rating might be more volatile and could change significantly with more reviews.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to use?
Notch is likely easier to use as it handles the entire customer support process. Hosted Email requires setting up email clients and managing email communications manually.
Which app is more cost-effective?
The cost-effectiveness depends on the merchant's needs and resources. Hosted Email is likely cheaper initially, but requires dedicated staff time for email management. Notch has a higher upfront cost but potentially saves on labor and improves customer satisfaction, leading to increased revenue.
Which app is better for a small startup?
A small startup with limited budget and resources may find Hosted Email sufficient, especially if they can manage customer inquiries themselves. However, if customer support becomes overwhelming, Notch could be a worthwhile investment to free up time for other crucial tasks.
Does Notch provide email addresses like Hosted Email?
Notch primarily focuses on managing customer support through various channels, including email, but the description doesn't explicitly state that they provide professional domain-linked email addresses for internal staff use. Their primary focus is on handling inbound customer communication, not outbound email branding.
Which app offers more scalability?
Notch is likely more scalable as it is designed to handle a large volume of customer inquiries through AI and expert teams. Hosted Email scales only to the degree the merchant has staff to manage it.
