HTML Meta Keywords Builder EX vs Shogun ‑ A/B Testingfor Shopify (2026)
HTML Meta Keywords Builder EX and Shogun ‑ A/B Testing are both Shopify apps categorized under 'Site optimization - Other,' but they cater to drastically different needs and approaches to improving an e-commerce store. HTML Meta Keywords Builder EX aims to directly manipulate a store's HTML code by adding meta keywords, a practice largely considered outdated and ineffective for modern SEO. Its positioning is centered on directly influencing search engine rankings through meta keyword insertion. Shogun ‑ A/B Testing, on the other hand, provides a sophisticated framework for conversion rate optimization (CRO) through A/B testing. It allows merchants to experiment with various aspects of their store, from page designs and theme elements to product prices. This app targets merchants seeking data-driven improvements and willing to invest in a more iterative and comprehensive optimization strategy. The significant difference lies in their approaches: one attempts direct SEO manipulation, while the other focuses on data-backed experimentation for improving user experience and conversions.

Our Verdict
For most Shopify merchants in 2026, Shogun ‑ A/B Testing is the far superior choice. Its data-driven approach to conversion rate optimization aligns with modern best practices for improving an e-commerce store. By focusing on testing and analyzing user behavior, merchants can make informed decisions that lead to increased sales and customer satisfaction, which indirectly improves SEO.
HTML Meta Keywords Builder EX is a much riskier proposition. Given the limited effectiveness of meta keywords in modern SEO, the app's primary value proposition is weak. Unless a merchant has a very specific, evidence-backed reason to believe in the power of meta keywords, Shogun ‑ A/B Testing represents a much more strategic and beneficial investment of time and resources.
Common Questions
Does Google use meta keywords for ranking in 2026?
While the exact algorithms are proprietary, the widespread industry consensus is that major search engines like Google have long disregarded meta keywords as a ranking factor. Relying solely on this tactic is unlikely to improve your store's visibility.
Is A/B testing more complex than adding meta keywords?
Generally, yes. A/B testing requires careful planning, setup, and analysis. You need to define clear goals, create test variations, and monitor results to draw meaningful conclusions. Adding meta keywords is a much simpler technical task but offers questionable returns.
Which app is better for long-term growth?
Shogun ‑ A/B Testing is undoubtedly the better choice for long-term growth. By continuously testing and optimizing your store, you can create a superior user experience that drives conversions and builds customer loyalty, ultimately leading to sustainable growth.
What are the potential risks of using HTML Meta Keywords Builder EX?
While unlikely, there's a small risk that using an outdated or ineffective SEO tactic could be perceived negatively by search engines. Furthermore, focusing on meta keywords diverts resources from more impactful SEO strategies like content creation and link building.
Can Shogun ‑ A/B Testing indirectly improve SEO?
Yes. By improving user experience, increasing conversion rates, and reducing bounce rates, A/B testing can indirectly improve your store's SEO. Search engines favor websites that provide value to users, so focusing on user-centric design and optimization can lead to higher rankings.
