Hurdle ‑ Health Testing vs VDB Ring Creatorfor Shopify (2026)
Hurdle ‑ Health Testing and VDB Ring Creator are both Shopify apps listed under 'Sourcing options - Other', but cater to drastically different niches. Hurdle targets merchants in the wellness and wellbeing space looking to offer personalized diagnostic health tests like blood tests and COVID-19 tests to their customers. Its core strength lies in handling the complexities of logistics, labs, and regulation associated with these tests, allowing merchants to focus on sales and marketing. In contrast, VDB Ring Creator is designed for jewelers and businesses selling rings, enabling customers to design and customize their own rings by mixing and matching gemstones and mountings. The key difference lies in the product being offered. Hurdle empowers merchants to add a completely new product category (health tests) to their existing wellness offerings, while VDB Ring Creator enhances the customer experience and expands inventory options for existing jewelry businesses, even with a virtual inventory. The target audience for Hurdle is merchants selling wellness products who want to increase revenue and offer customers actionable insights into their health. VDB Ring Creator, on the other hand, aims to empower jewelers to provide more customization options to customers. Both applications offer value by outsourcing certain complexities: for Hurdle, it's the logistical and regulatory burden of diagnostics, while for VDB, it's managing a large physical inventory and providing a 3D interactive experience.

Our Verdict
The choice between Hurdle ‑ Health Testing and VDB Ring Creator depends entirely on the type of products a merchant sells. If you sell wellness and wellbeing products and want to offer health testing without managing the complex logistics and regulatory hurdles, Hurdle is the better choice. However, given the lack of reviews, caution is advised. VDB Ring Creator is specifically designed for jewelers selling rings who want to provide a richer, more interactive customer experience with customizable ring designs and an expanded inventory (including virtual options). The higher rating and existing reviews suggest a more reliable and proven solution for its specific niche.
For most Shopify stores, the default would be to disregard Hurdle at this time due to the complete lack of reviews. The absence of user feedback makes it difficult to gauge its reliability and effectiveness. Until Hurdle gains more reviews, VDB Ring Creator appears to be the safer and more reliable choice for businesses in the jewelry sector, looking to offer ring creation capabilities. However, both apps serve completely different niches, making them non-competing solutions.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, VDB Ring Creator likely has a steeper learning curve due to the extensive customization options (color, filters, etc.) and virtual inventory integration. Hurdle's value proposition of 'Don't worry about a thing - Hurdle handles everything for you' suggests a simpler setup process, although actual ease of use will only be known once there are reviews.
Which app is more likely to increase revenue?
Both apps aim to increase revenue, but in different ways. Hurdle aims to add a new product category (health tests), while VDB Ring Creator aims to improve conversion rates by enhancing the customer experience and increasing customization options. It's impossible to say definitively which would generate more revenue without real-world data and understanding of specific store dynamics.
Which app requires more ongoing maintenance?
VDB Ring Creator likely requires more ongoing maintenance due to the need to manage inventory (both physical and virtual), update product selections, and monitor customer feedback on the ring design process. Hurdle's maintenance might involve monitoring test results and ensuring compliance with health regulations, but the 'Hurdle handles everything for you' promise suggests a more hands-off approach.
Which app is more suitable for small businesses?
Both apps could be suitable for small businesses, depending on their niche. However, Hurdle's zero rating would make most small businesses hesitant. VDB Ring Creator, with its positive reviews, is more likely to be trusted by small businesses, especially since it offers the benefit of virtual inventory, allowing them to compete with larger businesses that may have more physical products.
Does either app offer free trials or free plans?
The app descriptions do not explicitly state whether either app offers free trials or free plans. This information would need to be verified on the Shopify App Store.
