Hydrogen vs Selling Pointfor Shopify (2026)
Hydrogen and Selling Point are Shopify apps that address vastly different needs within the "Selling online" category. Hydrogen targets developers and merchants seeking to build highly customized, performant, and headless storefronts using React. It focuses on advanced development workflows, leveraging Shopify APIs, and offering a hosting solution (Oxygen). Its strength lies in providing the tooling and infrastructure for creating unique shopping experiences, prioritizing speed and flexibility. Its target audience is technically proficient or those with dedicated development resources. Selling Point, on the other hand, directly addresses a pain point for merchants migrating to Shopify or those wanting to consolidate gift card and store credit systems. It provides a user-friendly solution for importing and managing gift cards and store credits from other platforms into Shopify's native system. Its focus is on simplifying a complex migration process, making it accessible to merchants without extensive technical skills. Selling Point's value proposition is saving merchants time and money on manual data entry or custom development for gift card/store credit management. Ultimately, the choice depends on the specific requirements of the merchant. Hydrogen is for those seeking advanced storefront customization, while Selling Point caters to merchants looking to streamline their gift card and store credit operations during or after platform migration.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing a unique and highly customizable storefront with advanced features and performance optimization, and who possess the technical expertise or dedicated development resources, Hydrogen is the clear choice. It provides the tools and platform to build a powerful headless commerce experience. However, the low number of reviews and rating indicate there may be significant issues or lack of maturity.
Conversely, merchants primarily concerned with migrating or managing gift cards and store credits without technical complexity should choose Selling Point. Its high rating and numerous reviews suggest a reliable and effective solution for this specific need. For a basic Shopify store just looking to run simple marketing promotions or migrate gift cards, Selling Point is the clear winner.
