ImageMagik Background Remover vs SEO Speed Image Optimizerfor Shopify (2026)
ImageMagik Background Remover and SEO Speed Image Optimizer both aim to improve a Shopify store's performance through image optimization, but they target different aspects. ImageMagik focuses on aesthetic image editing, particularly background removal and customization, alongside basic compression. Its key strength lies in creating visually appealing product imagery with customized backgrounds and the ability to revert changes within a 7-day window. The app caters to merchants seeking a refined and consistent brand aesthetic across their product listings. SEO Speed Image Optimizer, on the other hand, prioritizes SEO and site speed optimization. While it also offers image compression and resizing, its unique selling point is its emphasis on optimizing alt text for improved search engine visibility and accessibility. Furthermore, the SEO Image report feature allows merchants to track optimization progress and understand the SEO impact. This app is tailored to merchants whose main goal is to boost search engine rankings through improved image SEO and faster page load times. The apps appear to have significant differences in how well established they are in the Shopify ecosystem.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing to create visually stunning product images with custom backgrounds, ImageMagik Background Remover is the clear choice, particularly if visual brand consistency is a high priority. However, the very low number of reviews presents a significant risk. Conversely, merchants focused on enhancing SEO performance and improving site speed should opt for SEO Speed Image Optimizer. Its alt text optimization and SEO reporting features provide tangible benefits for search engine ranking. The higher number of reviews inspires greater confidence in the product.
Given the limited review count of ImageMagik, merchants might consider a trial period of both apps to determine which aligns better with their specific workflow and performance goals. However, SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the safer choice due to its established user base and focus on a critical aspect of e-commerce success: SEO.
Common Questions
Which app is better for improving site speed?
Both apps compress images, which contributes to faster loading times. However, SEO Speed Image Optimizer's primary focus is site speed optimization through efficient compression and resizing, likely giving it a slight edge in this area.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Potentially, but it's not recommended. Both apps modify images, and conflicts could arise. It's best to choose one that best fits your needs to avoid unnecessary processing and potential issues. You would risk image corruption or redundant work.
Which app is easier to use?
Both apps advertise effortless bulk edits, suggesting similar ease of use. It is difficult to determine ease of use without using each app. However, given that ImageMagik requires you to select background type (clear or color), it might require slightly more configuration than SEO Speed Image Optimizer which is optimized for 'one click' bulk editing.
Which app offers better long-term value?
SEO Speed Image Optimizer offers potentially better long-term value due to its focus on SEO. Improved search engine rankings can translate to increased organic traffic and sales over time. The ImageMagik app is useful when you need to change the aesthetics of many product photos, such as when rebranding.
What are the risks of using ImageMagik Background Remover considering it only has one review?
With only one review, it's difficult to assess the app's reliability, performance, and customer support quality. There's a risk that the app may have undiscovered bugs, poor performance at scale, or limited support if you encounter issues. The app may also be unmaintained. Exercise caution and test thoroughly before committing to it.
