Inventory Planner by Sage and MESA: Workflow Automation both address Operations and Inventory needs on Shopify, but they take vastly different approaches. Inventory Planner by Sage is a specialized inventory management solution, likely focusing on forecasting, purchasing, and optimizing stock levels. Its core strength lies in providing deep, focused functionality within the inventory domain. MESA, on the other hand, is a broad workflow automation platform. Our Verdict
If a merchant's primary need is deep-dive inventory management – forecasting, purchasing optimization, and in-depth stock analysis – Inventory Planner by Sage is likely the better choice. Its specialization provides focused features for that specific domain. If, however, a merchant needs a broad solution to automate workflows across multiple business areas like orders, customer management, and email marketing, while also integrating with various apps and services, and desires an AI-powered experience, MESA: Workflow Automation is the superior option.
Given the similar number of reviews, the higher rating of MESA, combined with its AI capabilities and broader automation focus, makes it a compelling choice for many Shopify merchants in 2026. However, those with exceptionally complex inventory challenges might still find Inventory Planner more suitable. MESA seems to be the better value for a wider range of merchants, thanks to its scalability and 'no code' advantage.
