Kart: Minimum Order Quantity vs Materials Inventoryfor Shopify (2026)
Kart: Minimum Order Quantity and Materials Inventory both address inventory optimization for Shopify merchants, but they tackle fundamentally different problems. Kart focuses on setting maximum purchase limits, preventing overselling by limiting the *quantity* a customer can order per product. It's aimed at controlling order sizes and protecting inventory from large single purchases, allowing merchants to tailor purchase limits based on product, time, or customer. Conversely, Materials Inventory offers comprehensive inventory management, particularly for makers and manufacturers. Our Verdict
The choice between Kart: Minimum Order Quantity and Materials Inventory depends heavily on the merchant's specific needs. Kart is ideal for businesses needing to prevent single customers from buying excessive quantities of a product, particularly for managing limited stock or preventing reseller purchases. It provides control over order sizes. Materials Inventory is a much better fit for manufacturers and businesses managing raw materials. Its strength lies in connecting raw material levels to finished product inventory, allowing for accurate cost tracking and preventing stockouts due to material shortages. Although both prevent overselling, they approach the problem from opposite ends of the supply chain.
