Lightbox ‑ AI Product Images vs SEO Speed Image Optimizerfor Shopify (2026)
Lightbox ‑ AI Product Images and SEO Speed Image Optimizer, while both categorized as image editors on Shopify, cater to vastly different needs. Lightbox focuses on creating high-quality, consistent product photos using AI, directly within the Shopify admin, aimed at improving conversion rates through visually appealing product displays. It promises a cost-effective alternative to traditional photoshoots. In contrast, SEO Speed Image Optimizer prioritizes improving website performance and SEO by compressing, resizing, and optimizing alt text for existing product images. It's designed to enhance site speed, search engine visibility, and accessibility. The primary distinction lies in their core functionalities: Lightbox *generates* new product images, while SEO Speed Image Optimizer *optimizes* existing ones. Lightbox is ideal for merchants who need to create product imagery quickly and affordably, whereas SEO Speed Image Optimizer is better suited for merchants seeking to improve their website's SEO performance and loading speed through image optimization. The review count disparity (4 vs 183) also suggests a significant difference in market penetration and established user base in 2026, favoring SEO Speed Image Optimizer.

Our Verdict
For merchants struggling with the cost or time investment of traditional product photography, Lightbox ‑ AI Product Images offers a compelling solution. Its focus on generating visually appealing and consistent product imagery directly addresses the need for high-quality visuals to drive conversions. However, the limited number of reviews suggests it is a newer or less established option.
SEO Speed Image Optimizer, with its significantly larger user base and focus on SEO and site speed, is the more practical choice for merchants already possessing decent product photography but needing to improve their website's performance. Its comprehensive image optimization features make it an essential tool for any store prioritizing search engine visibility and user experience. If image generation is *not* the primary goal, SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the clear winner due to its established track record and vital optimization features.
