Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with quickly and accurately moving inventory between locations, Lightning Inventory is the better choice. Its barcode scanning and instant transfer features will significantly reduce the time spent on these tasks. The mobile optimization is a definite plus for on-the-go inventory management.
However, if the primary need is to create and manage a structured SKU and barcode system, particularly for a large product catalog or when launching a new store, SKU Manager | Fontaine is the more suitable option. While it has fewer reviews, its features for bulk generation, formatting, and duplicate checking are essential for establishing a solid foundation for inventory tracking. The conditional updating feature also adds significant value for maintaining data integrity over time.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a store with multiple warehouses?
Lightning Inventory is likely better suited for managing transfers between warehouses due to its transfer-focused features like barcode scanning and split transfers.
Does either app help with avoiding overselling?
While neither app directly advertises preventing overselling, Lightning Inventory's real-time inventory adjustments could contribute to better inventory visibility, helping to avoid overselling indirectly. SKU Manager | Fontaine has no direct overselling prevention.
Which app is easier to use for a beginner?
Lightning Inventory's focus on speed and simplicity suggests it might be easier for beginners to grasp quickly, especially with its barcode scanning feature. However, the best choice depends on the beginner's specific needs. If SKUs are the pain point, Fontaine is better.
Which app is better for stores selling in physical locations?
Both apps can be useful for stores selling in physical locations. Lightning Inventory streamlines inventory management by making it quick to transfer and adjust, while SKU Manager | Fontaine assists in creating and managing the SKU/Barcode system to support in person sales. The better app depends on the specific inventory challenges the merchant faces.
What are the risks with very few reviews for SKU Manager | Fontaine?
The risk is that the small sample size makes it harder to gauge the app's reliability and long-term performance. While the 5/5 rating is promising, more reviews are needed to confirm sustained quality and support.
