LinkIT ‑ Sell Digital Products vs MP Digital Downloadsfor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, LinkIT ‑ Sell Digital Products and MP Digital Downloads both cater to Shopify merchants selling digital goods, but their approaches and strengths differ significantly. LinkIT positions itself as the easiest solution, leveraging existing cloud storage and video platforms like Google Drive, YouTube, and Dropbox. This makes it appealing to merchants already using these services and seeking a quick, code-free way to sell digital assets. Its key strength lies in its simplicity and compatibility with various hosting platforms, targeting users who prioritize ease of use and minimal setup. MP Digital Downloads, on the other hand, focuses on providing a more comprehensive and secure digital product delivery system directly within Shopify. It aims at merchants seeking greater control over their digital assets, strong security features, and detailed download analytics. MP Digital Downloads targets merchants prioritizing robust file protection, instant delivery, and the ability to sell license keys. Its emphasis on built-in analytics, file protection, and unlimited products caters to businesses aiming to scale their digital product sales and require tools to manage and analyze performance. In contrast, LinkIT is attractive to smaller merchants who value leveraging existing cloud infrastructure and customizing email communications to maintain brand consistency. The choice between the two depends heavily on the merchant's technical expertise, security requirements, and the desired level of control over the digital product delivery process. The lack of reviews for MP Digital Downloads is a significant drawback at this point in time, making it harder to assess its performance.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing speed and ease of setup and already using cloud storage solutions, LinkIT is the better choice. Its simplicity makes it ideal for smaller operations or those new to selling digital products. Customizability of emails is a plus for branding. However, the lack of built-in security features and reliance on external platforms means that those with sensitive content or higher security demands should proceed cautiously.
MP Digital Downloads offers a more robust and secure solution for merchants who require greater control over their digital assets and are willing to invest more time in setup. Its built-in analytics and file protection capabilities make it suitable for larger businesses or those selling valuable digital products that require stronger security. The lack of reviews is concerning. Until the app gathers reviews and establishes a proven track record, merchants should carefully consider if the offered feature set outweighs the risk of choosing an unproven app. If secure delivery and strong file protection is a critical need, MP Digital Downloads could be a worthwhile choice despite the lack of validation, but potential users should test thoroughly during any free trial period.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
LinkIT is likely easier to set up as it primarily involves copying and pasting links to existing files, requiring minimal configuration within Shopify. MP Digital Downloads likely requires more initial configuration within the Shopify admin panel to define products and security settings.
Which app is more secure?
MP Digital Downloads is likely more secure, offering built-in file protection measures such as time and usage limits, directly within Shopify. LinkIT's security relies on the security of the platform hosting the file, which may vary significantly.
Which app is better for selling a large number of digital products?
MP Digital Downloads is better suited for selling a large number of digital products due to its unlimited product support and built-in analytics for tracking sales and downloads. LinkIT, while functional, may become less manageable at scale without dedicated tracking and management tools.
Can I customize the email sent to customers after purchase with both apps?
Yes, both apps offer email customization. LinkIT explicitly mentions customizing emails to fit the store's branding. While MP Digital Downloads doesn't mention email customization directly, the description implies customized delivery pages, suggesting email customization is also possible.
Which app is more cost-effective if I already pay for Google Drive storage?
If you already pay for Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar, LinkIT could be more cost-effective, as it leverages your existing infrastructure. MP Digital Downloads may incur additional costs depending on its pricing structure and any storage fees within Shopify.
