Magic Tips vs TryOnify: Try Before You Buyfor Shopify (2026)
Magic Tips and TryOnify: Try Before You Buy are Shopify apps catering to distinct needs within the payment options category. Magic Tips aims to enhance post-purchase customer engagement by enabling merchants to easily add tipping functionality. It focuses on customizable tip triggers and display options based on cart value or product inclusions. In contrast, TryOnify tackles cart abandonment by offering a 'Try Now, Pay Later' model, allowing customers a free trial period before payment, positioned as an alternative to predatory Buy Now, Pay Later schemes. TryOnify's core value proposition is increased conversions through reduced purchase friction. While both modify payment options, one adds a gratuity option, and the other modifies the payment timing.

Our Verdict
Based on the provided information, TryOnify appears to be the more compelling option for merchants struggling with cart abandonment and seeking a novel payment solution. Its 'Try Now, Pay Later' model addresses a common pain point directly and has received positive initial feedback. Magic Tips, while potentially useful for certain businesses such as those in the service industry or where tipping is customary, lacks any user validation. It may be valuable for businesses that rely on tips but presents greater risk due to the lack of any user data. If a merchant prioritizes minimizing cart abandonment and customer acquisition, TryOnify is the stronger choice. If a merchant's customer base already engages with tipping culture and they're willing to gamble on an unproven app, Magic Tips may be considered.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Both apps claim to offer quick and easy setup. However, TryOnify's description specifically emphasizes its quick setup. Without user reviews for Magic Tips, it's difficult to definitively determine ease of use, but TryOnify's focus on automation suggests a smoother experience.
Which app is more likely to increase revenue?
Both apps aim to increase revenue, but through different mechanisms. Magic Tips aims to increase revenue through added tips, whereas TryOnify aims to increase revenue by converting more initial browsers to paying customers by removing immediate financial risk. Therefore TryOnify likely would lead to a greater increase in overall revenue.
Which app is more suited for a subscription business?
TryOnify is likely more suited for a subscription business because it allows customers to trial the product before committing. Magic Tips, focused on post-purchase tipping, may not align as well with the recurring revenue model of subscriptions.
Is either app likely to have ongoing support costs?
The descriptions do not explicitly state ongoing support costs beyond the app subscription fees. However, TryOnify mentions credit card authorizations and reauthorizations, which may potentially incur additional fees from payment processors, depending on the merchant's existing arrangements.
Which app is a safer bet to install in 2026?
TryOnify is the safer bet. It has positive initial reviews, while Magic Tips has no reviews and a 0/5 rating, increasing the likelihood of bugs or poor performance. The lack of user feedback is a significant risk.
