Materials Inventory vs MRD ‑ StoneSharefor Shopify (2026)
Materials Inventory and MRD ‑ StoneShare are both Shopify apps targeting inventory management, but they serve distinct needs. Materials Inventory is positioned towards makers and manufacturers, focusing on raw material tracking, bill of materials creation, and profitability analysis. Its strength lies in its detailed approach to managing inventory in the context of production, including features like purchase order creation and low inventory alerts. In contrast, MRD ‑ StoneShare emphasizes multi-store synchronization, aiming to streamline inventory, product details, and order management across multiple Shopify stores. Its core value proposition is real-time updates across all connected stores, catering to merchants with a presence on various platforms. The key difference lies in their functionalities. Materials Inventory offers in-depth management of raw materials, allowing for precise cost tracking and production planning. This makes it ideal for businesses dealing with manufacturing or assembly. MRD ‑ StoneShare, on the other hand, excels in synchronizing data across multiple Shopify stores, ensuring consistency and preventing overselling across the board. The lack of ratings and reviews for MRD ‑ StoneShare presents a notable challenge in assessing its reliability and user satisfaction compared to the well-rated Materials Inventory.

Our Verdict
For merchants involved in manufacturing or creating products from raw materials, Materials Inventory is the clear choice. Its comprehensive features for managing raw materials, tracking costs, and creating purchase orders directly address the needs of this type of business. The existing positive reviews further support its effectiveness and ease of use. However, if a merchant's primary concern is managing inventory across multiple Shopify stores, MRD ‑ StoneShare might seem like a viable option, but the lack of user feedback and reviews makes it difficult to assess its reliability and performance. The absence of ratings also makes it risky to recommend over Materials Inventory.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a dropshipping business?
Neither app seems specifically tailored for dropshipping. The focus on raw materials in Materials Inventory is irrelevant, and the multi-store sync in MRD - StoneShare, while potentially useful for managing multiple channels, is not the core requirement for most dropshippers. A more generalized inventory management app might be more suitable.
Does Materials Inventory handle product variations (e.g., sizes, colors)?
While the description doesn't explicitly mention product variations, the ability to track 'products' inventory' suggests it likely supports variations. However, it is best to confirm with the app developer.
Can MRD - StoneShare sync inventory with platforms other than Shopify?
Based on the description, MRD ‑ StoneShare focuses on syncing across multiple Shopify stores. It does not state it will connect to platforms other than Shopify.
Is Materials Inventory suitable for a very small business with only a few products?
Yes, the 'Easy to use' claim and feature-rich nature make it potentially valuable even for small businesses wanting tight control over their inventory and costs from the start.
What are the risks of using MRD - StoneShare with no reviews?
Using an app with no reviews carries increased risk. There's uncertainty about its functionality, reliability, support, and potential compatibility issues. It's best to contact the developer directly to understand its limitations before using it. Also consider the risk of potential bugs or issues that have not been found by other users.
