Materials Inventory vs Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Outfor Shopify (2026)
Materials Inventory and Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Out both operate within the Shopify 'Inventory' and 'Inventory optimization' categories, but cater to very different merchant needs. Our Verdict
For manufacturers and businesses dealing with raw materials and complex production processes, Materials Inventory is the clear winner. Its comprehensive feature set allows for detailed tracking of costs, profitability, and inventory levels across multiple stages of production. The purchase order functionality further streamlines the supply chain, making it a powerful tool for managing a complex inventory.
However, for smaller businesses or those prioritizing a clean and user-friendly storefront, Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Out offers a more streamlined solution. The ability to automatically hide sold-out products and receive low-stock alerts is crucial for maintaining a positive customer experience and preventing lost sales. While less feature-rich than Materials Inventory, it addresses a key pain point for many Shopify store owners without requiring complex configuration.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Out is likely easier to set up and use due to its more focused feature set. Materials Inventory, while aiming for ease of use, inherently requires more setup and configuration to properly define bills of materials, track costs, and manage purchase orders.
Can both apps prevent overselling?
Yes, both apps can prevent overselling. Materials Inventory updates inventory in real-time based on raw materials and product sales, and Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Out hides products when inventory hits zero.
Does Materials Inventory offer features to improve the customer experience?
Indirectly, yes. By preventing stockouts and ensuring accurate inventory levels, Materials Inventory contributes to a positive customer experience by reducing the likelihood of order cancellations or delays. However, it doesn't directly focus on storefront presentation like Nada.
Is either app suitable for dropshipping businesses?
Neither app is ideally suited for dropshipping. Materials Inventory's focus on raw materials and manufacturing is irrelevant, and Nada's features, while usable, are less critical for dropshipping, where inventory management is largely handled by the supplier.
Which app is better for a business with a large product catalog?
Nada • Sort & Hide Sold Out would be more beneficial for a business with a large product catalog that is often out of stock of certain items. Materials Inventory could still be used in this case, however, this use case is outside the app's target demographic and some of the Materials Inventory features may not be relevant.
