Our Verdict
For merchants involved in manufacturing or assembly, Materials Inventory is the clear choice. Its focus on BOM management, raw material tracking, and profitability analysis directly addresses their unique needs. The real-time inventory synchronization is also critical for preventing overselling when production relies on available materials. It provides inventory optimization through purchase order recommendations and low inventory alerts.
However, merchants operating primarily in physical retail locations using Shopify POS will find PML Stock Take Inventory Count to be far more suitable. Its barcode scanning capabilities, POS integration, and stock take management features streamline the often-tedious process of physical inventory reconciliation. The ability to use existing POS devices and scan concurrently with multiple devices is a major advantage in fast-paced retail environments. This leads to better inventory accuracy and reduction in human error with a focus on rapid replenishment.
