MAZINGXR ‑ from 2D to 3D to AR vs Poplar AR/3D product viewerfor Shopify (2026)
MAZINGXR ‑ from 2D to 3D to AR and Poplar AR/3D product viewer both aim to enhance the shopping experience by bringing augmented reality (AR) and 3D product visualization to Shopify stores. MAZINGXR positions itself as a comprehensive solution, explicitly mentioning conversion from 2D images to 3D models and AR experiences, appealing to merchants looking for a full-fledged transition. Poplar AR/3D product viewer, on the other hand, is more generically named, suggesting it might focus solely on AR/3D product viewing without the explicit mention of converting existing 2D assets. The most significant difference currently lies in their user feedback. MAZINGXR boasts a perfect 5/5 rating based on 5 reviews, indicating positive initial user experiences. In contrast, Poplar AR/3D product viewer has no ratings or reviews, making it difficult to gauge its performance or user satisfaction. This lack of social proof presents a hurdle for merchants considering Poplar, while the positive feedback for MAZINGXR acts as a strong signal for its effectiveness, at least for the initial users.

Our Verdict
Based on the currently available data, MAZINGXR ‑ from 2D to 3D to AR appears to be the better choice for merchants seeking a well-received and potentially more comprehensive solution, particularly if they need assistance converting existing 2D product images. The positive user reviews provide a degree of confidence. However, merchants comfortable with taking a risk and potentially helping shape the development of a new app might consider Poplar AR/3D product viewer.
In 2026, user reviews remain an essential factor. If Poplar still has no reviews, proceed with caution. MAZINGXR, backed by its existing positive feedback, is the safer bet, especially for merchants needing a complete 2D-to-3D/AR solution. Only consider Poplar if you are looking for something potentially more streamlined and cost-effective *and* are willing to be an early adopter.
Common Questions
Which app is better for converting existing 2D product photos into 3D models?
MAZINGXR explicitly mentions supporting conversion from 2D to 3D/AR, whereas Poplar does not. Therefore, MAZINGXR is likely the better choice for this specific use case, assuming this functionality is well executed.
Which app is easier to use?
Without user reviews detailing the setup and operational process, it's difficult to definitively say. The conversion aspect of MAZINGXR might make it slightly more complex initially, whereas Poplar might be easier if it focuses purely on displaying pre-existing 3D models. This would require more testing and comparison.
What are the main risks of choosing Poplar?
The primary risk is the lack of any user reviews. This makes it impossible to assess the app's reliability, ease of use, or customer support quality. Merchants would essentially be taking a gamble by installing and using Poplar without any prior user validation.
Is there a scenario where Poplar might be a better choice?
Potentially, if a merchant already has high-quality 3D models of their products and simply needs a viewer app to display them in AR. If Poplar offers a simpler, more streamlined interface for AR viewing, and offers a good price, it could be worth exploring once user reviews become available to confirm its usability.
Are there any free trials available for either app?
The provided data does not contain information about free trials. To determine if either app offers a free trial, merchants should check the app listings on the Shopify App Store.
