Measura: Sell by Weight & More vs Point of Salefor Shopify (2026)
Measura: Sell by Weight & More and Shopify's Point of Sale (POS) cater to distinct merchant needs within the 'Selling in person' and 'Retail' Shopify categories. Measura specializes in enabling sales based on measurements like weight, length, volume, and area, crucial for businesses like grocery stores and hardware shops that deal with fractional quantities and precise inventory management. It excels in automatically adjusting inventory and offering volume-based discounts, targeting niche businesses that require granular control over measurement-based sales across both online and in-person channels. Shopify POS, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive solution aimed at unifying online and retail stores. While it supports in-person sales, its focus is on providing a broader omnichannel experience, with features like local pickup, email carts, and integrated customer management. It prioritizes streamlined store management, order tracking, and customer relationship building, targeting a wider range of retailers who need a unified platform to manage their entire business rather than specific measurement-based selling functionalities. Measura prioritizes precise measurement sales and inventory, while Shopify POS is a more general POS solution.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing to sell by weight, length, volume, or area, particularly those managing fractional inventory, Measura: Sell by Weight & More is the clear choice. Its specialized features, tailored to businesses like grocery stores and hardware shops, offer the precision and control needed for accurate sales and inventory tracking. However, the low number of reviews suggests the app is very new or less well known, meaning it could have unknown bugs or a less mature feature set.
If a merchant requires a comprehensive point-of-sale system that integrates online and retail operations, offers omnichannel capabilities, and prioritizes general sales management, Shopify POS is the better option. While its rating is lower, it is well-supported by a high number of reviews, indicating a more established and broadly applicable solution. The lower rating may indicate a broad use-case and therefore many users; each of whom have unique needs. Shopify POS might struggle if granular, measurement-based selling and fractional inventory control are critical requirements.
Common Questions
Can Shopify POS sell items by weight like Measura?
While Shopify POS supports general sales, it may not offer the precise measurement-based selling and fractional inventory management capabilities of Measura. It's designed for broader retail needs rather than specialized weight/length/volume sales.
Is Measura suitable for businesses that don't sell by weight or measurement?
No, Measura is specifically designed for businesses that sell by weight, length, area, or volume. It wouldn't be beneficial for businesses selling whole products.
Does Shopify POS offer volume-based discounts like Measura?
Shopify POS offers discounting features but doesn't specify offering discounts based on volume, weight, or length. Measura offers this directly.
Which app is better for managing overall store operations?
Shopify POS is better for managing overall store operations due to its omnichannel features and focus on unifying online and retail channels. Measura is focused on a specific function and not overall store management.
What should a merchant consider when choosing between these apps?
Merchants should consider whether their business relies on selling by measurement (weight, length, volume, area). If so, Measura is likely the better choice. If they need a general POS system with omnichannel capabilities, Shopify POS is more suitable. Merchants should also look at the reliability of the app as determined by the rating, reviews, and company providing the app.
