Metafields Guru vs Purchase Optionsfor Shopify (2026)
Metafields Guru and Purchase Options, while both technically residing in the 'Metafields' category on Shopify, serve vastly different purposes and target distinct merchant needs. Metafields Guru focuses on empowering merchants to manage and display custom data fields, crucial for enriching product information and personalizing the customer experience. It emphasizes bulk actions, storefront display without coding, data migration, and an Excel-like interface, suggesting a focus on power users and merchants managing significant data volumes. In contrast, Purchase Options is narrowly focused on font management for specific Shopify themes, primarily Horizon and similar designs. Its value proposition centers around simplified font customization directly within the theme editor, catering to merchants seeking visual consistency and branding control but only if their chosen themes are compatible. The stark difference in user ratings and reviews (Metafields Guru with a perfect score and substantial feedback vs. Purchase Options with zero ratings or reviews) highlights the divergent experiences and adoption rates between the two apps.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing to manage custom product specifications, downloadable files, or related product data, Metafields Guru is the clear choice. Its robust feature set for bulk editing, data migration, and no-code storefront display make it a powerful tool for creating data-driven storefronts. The high ratings and numerous reviews support its effectiveness.
However, if a merchant's sole need is to customize fonts within a compatible theme like Horizon, Purchase Options might seem appealing, *if* one trusts an app with zero reviews. The lack of user feedback presents a significant risk. Given the lack of social proof for Purchase Options, and that Metafields Guru is a much better established and versatile metafields solution, Metafields Guru has a higher recommendation overall. Be sure to note that Metafields Guru does *not* help with font-specific customizations, and the two apps are not direct competitors.
