miniOrange Single Sign On‑SSO vs Talon Backupsfor Shopify (2026)
miniOrange Single Sign On‑SSO and Talon Backups, while both listed under 'Security - Other' on the Shopify App Store, address fundamentally different security needs for Shopify merchants. miniOrange SSO focuses on streamlining and securing user authentication, particularly for B2C and B2B businesses needing robust identity provider (IdP) integration. It allows customers to log in using existing credentials from services like Azure AD, Okta, or even custom IdPs, simplifying the login process and enhancing security by centralizing authentication. Key strengths include support for diverse authentication protocols (SAML, OAuth, OIDC, JWT), attribute synchronization, and single logout functionality. Talon Backups, in contrast, offers data security and recovery. It addresses the risk of data loss during theme updates, app installations, or content modifications by automatically creating daily backups of critical store data, including themes, products, orders, and customer information. Merchants can use Talon Backups to revert changes or recover specific records, providing peace of mind when making significant store alterations. Talon Backups' strengths lie in its automated backup process, detailed change tracking, and easy restore capabilities. The primary difference is that miniOrange SSO secures access *to* the store, while Talon Backups secures the data *within* the store.

Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
While both apps aim to be user-friendly, Talon Backups is likely simpler to set up initially, as it primarily involves configuring automatic backups. miniOrange SSO requires more technical knowledge and configuration to integrate with your chosen identity provider.
Does miniOrange SSO backup store data?
No, miniOrange SSO focuses on user authentication and does not provide data backup capabilities for themes, products, or other store content. It synchronizes user attributes from the IDP but isn't a backup solution.
Can Talon Backups help with user access control?
No, Talon Backups' focus is on backing up and restoring store data. It doesn't manage user accounts or permissions.
Are either of these apps required to run a Shopify store?
No. Neither app is mandatory, but both provide valuable security enhancements: miniOrange SSO enhances login security and Talon Backups protects against data loss.
If I have Talon Backups, do I still need data backups from Shopify?
Talon Backups provides more granular control and faster recovery than Shopify's default backup options. While Shopify may offer some backup capabilities, a dedicated app like Talon Backups provides more comprehensive protection and easier restoration. It's about having a plan B and C.
