Mockuplabs: Mockup generator vs Rubik Variant Images & Swatchfor Shopify (2026)
Mockuplabs: Mockup generator and Rubik Variant Images & Swatch are both Shopify apps focused on improving the visual presentation of products, but cater to distinct merchant needs. Mockuplabs is geared towards merchants seeking to create photorealistic mockups for product promotion, particularly those involved in print-on-demand (POD) or looking to quickly generate marketing assets. It offers AI-powered tools for editing, recoloring, and creating designs from images, appealing to users who may lack advanced design skills. Its strength lies in its comprehensive design suite and ease of generating professional-looking marketing materials. Rubik Variant Images & Swatch, on the other hand, addresses the specific issue of variant image management. It focuses on enhancing the customer experience by displaying only the relevant images when a customer selects a specific product variant, reducing confusion and potentially decreasing return rates. The primary difference lies in their core functionality. Mockuplabs is a design and mockup generation tool, whereas Rubik Variant Images & Swatch is a variant image management solution. Mockuplabs aims to help merchants create visually appealing mockups and marketing assets with AI and templates, while Rubik Variant Images & Swatch ensures that customers see the correct product images for each variant they select. The large difference in the number of reviews suggests that Rubik Variant Images & Swatch has a larger user base and has been around longer than Mockuplabs, giving more confidence to potential customers. While both have perfect 5-star ratings, the single review for Mockuplabs does not provide sufficient validation.

Our Verdict
If a merchant's primary need is creating high-quality mockups for marketing or POD products, particularly without requiring design expertise, Mockuplabs: Mockup generator is the better choice. Its AI-powered features and template library offer a fast and easy way to generate professional-looking assets. However, the low number of reviews should be considered. For merchants selling products with numerous variants (e.g., colors, sizes), Rubik Variant Images & Swatch is the more appropriate solution. It improves the shopping experience by ensuring that customers only see relevant images for the variant they've selected, reducing confusion and potentially lowering return rates. The higher review count and specific focus make it a reliable choice for this use case.
Given the available data, Rubik Variant Images & Swatch appears to be the more established and reliable app due to its larger user base (indicated by the review count). However, Mockuplabs could be a valuable tool for certain merchants focusing on marketing visuals, but potential users should be aware of the very limited review history.
