MOD: GeoLocation Redirect vs Traffic Policefor Shopify (2026)
Both MOD: GeoLocation Redirect and Traffic Police cater to Shopify merchants aiming to personalize user experiences based on geolocation. MOD focuses primarily on redirecting users to relevant storefronts or specific URLs, offering a simpler approach to internationalization. Its strength lies in automatically guiding customers to the appropriate shop, maintaining URL structures if desired, and offering a user-selectable country notification bar. This is ideal for merchants with multiple international stores who want a smooth, user-friendly redirect experience. Traffic Police, on the other hand, adopts a security-centric stance in addition to geolocation redirection. While it also offers auto-redirection, its core value proposition revolves around blocking malicious traffic from specific regions, creating allow/block lists, and providing IP logs. Traffic Police also includes features like image antitheft and disabling right clicks, addressing broader security concerns. Therefore, Traffic Police targets merchants more concerned with security and protecting their website from unwanted access, seeing geolocation redirection as a secondary benefit. MOD: GeoLocation Redirect has significantly more reviews, which likely indicates a longer lifespan in the app store. Although Traffic Police has a perfect rating, it has significantly fewer reviews than MOD, making its rating less statistically significant. This makes MOD appear to be a mature product that merchants have actively used since 2023.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with seamlessly directing international customers to the correct store, MOD: GeoLocation Redirect is the more suitable option. Its focus on redirection, URL preservation, and the user-friendly notification bar makes it ideal for enhancing the shopping experience for a global audience. It also appears to be the product with more user adoption and a track record.
However, if website security and traffic management are paramount, Traffic Police offers a comprehensive solution. While it also provides geolocation redirection, its core strength lies in blocking malicious traffic, creating allow/block lists, and implementing security measures like image antitheft. Merchants facing security threats or needing granular control over website access will find Traffic Police more valuable. Traffic Police also includes a GDPR cookie bar, which some merchants might find useful if they need to comply with GDPR in the future. The features of Traffic Police are not a replacement for a CDN, so this app must still be used with care.
