MultiMail vs SmartNotify for Slackfor Shopify (2026)
MultiMail and SmartNotify for Slack are both staff notification apps for Shopify, but they cater to different communication preferences. MultiMail focuses on sending notifications via email (inferred, as the name 'MultiMail' strongly suggests this purpose), while SmartNotify for Slack integrates directly with the Slack communication platform. This core difference dictates their target audience and value proposition. SmartNotify for Slack is for merchants heavily invested in Slack for team communication and process management, offering real-time notifications within their existing workflow. MultiMail, on the other hand, is likely aimed at merchants who prefer email-based notifications or have staff who primarily rely on email for receiving alerts.

Our Verdict
The best choice depends entirely on the merchant's internal communication infrastructure. If a merchant's team relies heavily on Slack for daily operations, SmartNotify for Slack is the clear winner. Its ability to route different events to different channels and configure notification conditions offers granular control and avoids notification fatigue. However, if the merchant or their team primarily uses email, or if the setup and management of Slack integration is perceived as too complex, MultiMail would be a more suitable, simpler alternative. Given the limited review count for both apps, a trial period with both (if available) would be highly recommended to assess ease of use and reliability in the specific Shopify environment.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Without direct experience, it's difficult to say definitively. MultiMail likely offers a simpler setup process due to the ubiquity of email. SmartNotify for Slack requires connecting to the Slack API, which may involve more technical configuration, but the app description suggests a user-friendly interface.
Which app offers more control over notification types?
SmartNotify for Slack explicitly lists features for configuring conditions and choosing between compact and detailed message templates. The level of control offered by MultiMail is unknown based on the provided data.
Which app is better for a small team with limited tech resources?
MultiMail might be a better starting point for a smaller team due to its likely simpler setup. However, if the team is already comfortable with Slack, SmartNotify could provide significant time-saving benefits.
Does SmartNotify for Slack support notifications for abandoned carts?
The provided description mentions notifications for new orders, status updates, and refunds. Abandoned cart notifications are not explicitly mentioned.
Can I use SmartNotify for Slack to notify external partners through shared Slack channels?
Potentially, yes. SmartNotify allows connection to different Slack channels, including those in different workspaces. If you share a channel with an external partner, you could potentially receive notifications in that channel. However, privacy considerations and channel setup would be critical.
