MX: Background Music Player vs Section Star: Theme Sectionsfor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, Shopify merchants seeking to enhance their store's design elements have two distinct options: MX: Background Music Player and Section Star: Theme Sections. MX: Background Music Player focuses on auditory enhancement, allowing merchants to set the mood and atmosphere by playing background music from various sources like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music. Its strength lies in its customization options for the player's appearance and control over playback. The target audience is merchants looking to create a specific ambiance, particularly during holidays and seasonal sales, with the aim of improving customer engagement and conversion rates. Section Star: Theme Sections, on the other hand, targets visual design. It offers a library of pre-designed theme sections that can be easily integrated into existing Shopify stores without coding. This app caters to merchants who want to upgrade their store's appearance with professionally designed elements like slideshows and countdown timers, without hiring expensive developers. While both apps fall under the "Design elements" category, they address fundamentally different aspects of store design – audio vs. visual – and serve distinct merchant needs.

Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Both apps claim to be very easy to use. MX: Background Music Player boasts one-click integration, while Section Star emphasizes its no-code approach. Ease of use is likely comparable, but Section Star's reliance on section selection may involve more content decisions.
Which app is more effective for improving sales?
Both apps claim to improve sales, but through different mechanisms. MX: Background Music Player aims to boost conversion by setting a positive mood, while Section Star focuses on enhancing the store's visual appeal and functionality. The best choice depends on the merchant's individual needs and their understanding of what drives sales in their specific market. If a merchant prioritizes a good mood leading to better conversion then Music is the better choice. If the priority is to enhance the store's appeal, then Section Star is better.
Which app is better for a long-term design strategy?
Section Star is likely better for a long-term design strategy, as it allows for continuous updating and customization of the store's visual elements. MX: Background Music Player is more focused on short-term atmosphere enhancements, such as holiday-themed music, which may require frequent updates.
What happens if the music streaming service integrated with MX changes?
This is a risk. If a supported music streaming service (Spotify, etc.) changes its API or access policies, MX: Background Music Player may need to be updated to maintain compatibility. This is something to keep in mind when relying on external services.
Are there any potential drawbacks to using background music on a website?
Yes. Some users find background music distracting or annoying, which can negatively impact the shopping experience. It's important to provide clear controls for users to mute or adjust the volume and to consider the target audience's preferences.
