NA Age Verification vs Nova: GDPR Cookie Consentfor Shopify (2026)
NA Age Verification and Nova: GDPR Cookie Consent are both legal apps for Shopify merchants, but they address distinctly different needs. NA Age Verification focuses on ensuring customers meet specific age requirements before accessing the store or completing purchases, making it ideal for businesses selling age-restricted products like alcohol, tobacco, or adult content. It offers multiple verification methods, including yes/no buttons, birthday entry, and checkboxes, and allows for customization and integration with tools like Klaviyo. Nova: GDPR Cookie Consent, on the other hand, centers around compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by providing a customizable cookie consent banner or bar. It's designed to inform users about cookie usage on the site and obtain their consent, primarily targeting merchants who need to comply with EU regulations. While both apps boast easy installation, Nova prioritizes seamless design integration and provides 24/7 live support to guide users through GDPR implementation.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants needing to verify the age of their customers due to the nature of their products, NA Age Verification is the clear choice. Its features are specifically tailored to age verification, providing flexible methods and record-keeping capabilities. The developer API offers additional customization for advanced users.
However, merchants primarily concerned with GDPR compliance, particularly those targeting customers in the EU, will find Nova: GDPR Cookie Consent more suitable. Its focus on customizable cookie consent banners, ease of design integration, and dedicated live support ensures a smooth GDPR implementation process. The higher number of reviews suggests it's a widely adopted solution for GDPR compliance.
Common Questions
Does NA Age Verification help with GDPR compliance?
While NA Age Verification collects some user data (birthdates, potentially), its primary function isn't GDPR cookie consent. You'd still likely need a dedicated GDPR app like Nova for full compliance.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Yes, both apps can be used together. NA Age Verification focuses on age restrictions, while Nova focuses on cookie consent. They serve separate purposes.
Is NA Age Verification customizable?
Yes, NA Age Verification offers significant customization, including text, images, disclaimers, page rules, and even a developer API for advanced users.
Does Nova: GDPR Cookie Consent block cookies before consent?
The description states that declining cookies requires instructions in your privacy policy, implying the app may not automatically block cookies before consent is given. It mainly facilitates displaying the banner and linking to your policy.
Which app is easier to install and use?
Both apps claim easy installation. NA Age Verification highlights its automatic installation, while Nova emphasizes its user-friendly code-free style editor. User feedback would be needed to definitively determine which is simpler overall, although Nova's 24/7 live support may offset any initial usability challenges.
