Nexo ‑ Order Limits Quantity vs RuffRuff Selling Periodsfor Shopify (2026)
Nexo ‑ Order Limits Quantity and RuffRuff Selling Periods both address Shopify merchants' needs regarding order management, but they target distinct requirements. Nexo focuses on controlling *how much* of a product customers can buy, providing tools to set minimum, maximum, and step limits, catering to scenarios like preventing bulk buying, managing flash sales, and accommodating B2B clients with customer-specific rules. RuffRuff Selling Periods, on the other hand, concentrates on *when* products can be purchased, enabling pre-sale announcements and limited-time sales with the ability to hide the 'Add to Cart' button and display custom messages outside the sales period. The key difference lies in their core functionality: Nexo manages quantity restrictions with granular control based on products, variants, collections, and even customer segments. RuffRuff, leveraging the Cart and Checkout Validation API, manages availability windows ensuring products can only be purchased during defined timeframes. While both offer no-code setup, Nexo aims to optimize inventory control and prevent policy violations related to *how many* units are purchased, whereas RuffRuff focuses on launching products with hype and creating urgency based on *when* items are offered.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing inventory management, controlling wholesale quantities, preventing bots from buying limited-edition items, or implementing complex purchase rules based on customer segments, Nexo ‑ Order Limits Quantity is the better choice. Its ability to set min/max limits and tailor rules to specific customers or product groups provides a level of control that RuffRuff lacks.
However, if the primary goal is to generate excitement around product launches, run limited-time promotions, or ensure products are only available during specific periods, RuffRuff Selling Periods is the more suitable option. Its ability to hide the 'Add to Cart' button and display custom messages outside the sales window, coupled with its integration with the Cart and Checkout Validation API for definitive purchase prevention, makes it ideal for time-sensitive campaigns. The choice depends on whether the merchant needs to manage *how much* customers buy or *when* they can buy it.
