Our Verdict
For merchants seeking comprehensive automation capabilities triggered by diverse store events, including order updates, customer behavior, and product changes, Notifications by Modd Apps is the superior choice. Its flexibility allows for complex workflows that extend beyond shipping notifications. However, this power comes with a steeper learning curve, requiring some technical proficiency in HTML and Liquid.
ShipAware is ideal for merchants primarily concerned with managing shipment-related issues and reducing customer inquiries about order status. Its focus on shipping provides a streamlined solution for tracking packages, proactively addressing late deliveries, and automatically informing customers about shipment progress. It's a great pick for businesses that want to improve the post-purchase experience without needing extensive customization capabilities.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
ShipAware is likely easier to set up, as it focuses specifically on shipping. Notifications by Modd Apps, with its wider range of customization options, probably requires more configuration.
Can both apps send emails to customers?
Yes, both apps can send emails to customers. However, Notifications by Modd Apps allows for far greater customization of those emails and the events that trigger them.
Which app is better for dropshipping businesses?
ShipAware is specifically designed for handling dropship orders, providing alerts for late fulfillments which is critical for maintaining good relationships with drop shippers and customers. Notifications by Modd Apps could potentially be adapted to this purpose, but it wouldn't be as straightforward.
If I need to send product-specific instructions to a vendor based on what the customer ordered, which app is better?
Notifications by Modd Apps excels at this type of task. Its ability to send files (like instructions) via FTP based on complex logic (product in order from Vendor1) makes it the better choice. ShipAware doesn't offer this level of customization for vendor communication.
Which app offers SMS notifications?
ShipAware lists Email and SMS alerts for late delivery. Notifications by Modd Apps does not explicitly mention SMS capabilities in its description.
