Notifications by Modd Apps vs SmartNotify for Slackfor Shopify (2026)
Notifications by Modd Apps and SmartNotify for Slack both aim to improve Shopify store management through notifications, but they cater to different needs and workflows. Notifications by Modd Apps is a robust, all-encompassing notification and automation platform designed to manage internal and external communications, trigger updates to Shopify objects, and handle complex logic using Liquid. It appears positioned towards merchants needing highly customized, automated processes beyond basic order notifications, enabling intricate workflows with various recipients (staff, vendors, customers) and actions (tagging, file sending). SmartNotify for Slack, on the other hand, offers a simpler, focused solution: delivering Shopify event notifications directly to Slack. It caters to merchants who primarily rely on Slack for team communication and want immediate visibility into store activity. While SmartNotify allows for some conditional filtering, it lacks the broad automation capabilities of Modd Apps, such as file transfers, tagging, or direct communication with external parties. Its strength lies in its seamless integration with Slack, providing real-time awareness of critical events.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants deeply integrated with Slack and primarily focused on immediate awareness of store events, SmartNotify for Slack is the ideal choice. Its simple integration and direct notifications streamline workflow within the Slack environment. However, for merchants requiring extensive automation, customizable workflows, and communication with multiple external parties (vendors, suppliers), Notifications by Modd Apps is the stronger solution. Its ability to trigger updates to Shopify objects and handle complex logic provides a more comprehensive automation platform, though it may require a steeper learning curve and more configuration.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the merchant's technical expertise and the level of automation they seek. Small teams relying heavily on Slack would benefit more from SmartNotify. Larger operations with complex needs requiring email, file sending, or in-Shopify updates are better suited to Notifications by Modd Apps.
