Notifications by Modd Apps vs Unblocked: Push Notificationsfor Shopify (2026)
Notifications by Modd Apps and Unblocked: Push Notifications cater to drastically different needs for Shopify merchants in 2026. Modd Apps focuses on highly customizable, event-triggered emails and backend store object updates (tags, notes, etc.). Its strength lies in its flexibility and integration with existing workflows, making it ideal for complex operational needs and personalized customer communication through email. Unblocked, on the other hand, positions itself as a solution for direct customer engagement via mobile push notifications, bypassing email and SMS limitations by delivering messages directly to lock screens, a valuable acquisition/retention tool. The fundamental difference lies in the communication channel and use case. Modd Apps excels at internal and external operational workflows, advanced customer segmentation, and triggered notifications based on shop events, delivering files, and other specific needs. Unblocked targets direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands that prioritize immediate reach and customer re-engagement through push notifications, particularly for product launches, restocks, and flash sales. One enables robust automation and customization of email/internal processes; the other centers on improving mobile re-engagement metrics, without requiring app ownership.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing robust operational automation, personalized emails, or backend store object manipulation, Notifications by Modd Apps is the clear choice. Its extensive customization options and event-triggered capabilities allow for highly specific workflows. However, the lack of a trial period mentioned and a potentially steeper learning curve due to Liquid scripting need to be considered.
Unblocked: Push Notifications is best suited for DTC brands focused on direct customer engagement and mobile re-engagement. If your primary goal is to boost sales and retention through timely push notifications, bypassing the limitations of email and SMS, and a one-click installation is a priority, Unblocked is the superior option. However, the absence of reviews is a significant risk factor and should be addressed before committing.
