Notifications by Modd Apps vs WAlert: WhatsApp notificationsfor Shopify (2026)
Notifications by Modd Apps and WAlert: WhatsApp notifications both aim to improve communication around Shopify stores, but they serve vastly different purposes and target different communication channels. Notifications by Modd Apps positions itself as a highly customizable and versatile notification engine, allowing merchants to send emails and files based on a wide range of store events and complex logic. It supports various recipients (staff, suppliers, customers, etc.) and allows for updating store objects like customer tags. In contrast, WAlert focuses solely on WhatsApp notifications, providing a more direct and immediate communication channel with customers for specific events like order confirmations and new product announcements. WAlert also advertises a greeting feature for new customers contacting the business. The core difference lies in the channel and scope. Notifications by Modd Apps is a broader automation tool handling email and file transfers triggered by intricate shop events, whereas WAlert is a focused customer communication tool solely utilizing WhatsApp. Merchants choosing between them should consider whether their priority is internal automation and broad communication customization, or direct customer engagement via WhatsApp.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking to automate internal workflows, manage supplier communication, and implement complex, rule-based email notifications, Notifications by Modd Apps is the clear choice. Its extensive customization options and ability to update store objects provide significant flexibility. Businesses needing automated responses to customer behavior would also benefit. However, the setup and maintenance of complex logic may require more technical expertise.
Conversely, if a merchant's primary goal is direct and immediate customer communication via WhatsApp, particularly for order confirmations and new product announcements, WAlert offers a simpler and more focused solution. It's ideal for businesses heavily reliant on WhatsApp for customer interaction and those who prioritize ease of use over extensive customization. The lack of ratings or reviews at the time of analysis, though, is a risk factor that should be acknowledged.
