OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification vs Partialy ‑ Partial Payment CODfor Shopify (2026)
OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification and Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD both address challenges related to Cash on Delivery (COD) orders, but they take fundamentally different approaches. OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification focuses on *verifying* COD orders to reduce fake orders and Return to Origin (RTO) rates by using One-Time Passwords (OTPs) sent via WhatsApp, SMS, or email. It targets merchants experiencing high rates of order cancellations and returns specifically due to unverified COD orders. The core value is order confirmation and minimizing fraudulent activity before fulfillment. It's strong where COD is desired by customers, but has historically lead to large number of RTOs. It is simple to use since it relies on built-in shopify verification. It also keeps buyers aware of the process via automated messages. Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD, on the other hand, aims to reduce RTO and increase sales by offering customers flexible payment options like partial payments, deposits, and deferred payments. It enables merchants to collect a portion of the payment upfront, reducing the risk associated with COD orders. Partialy's focus is on improving conversion rates by offering more payment flexibility and managing COD risks through prepayment. It is more complex, with features like setting advanced COD rules based on various criteria. This makes it suited to stores with already low RTOs, or that need to deal with fraud, with limited effect on customer engagement.

Our Verdict
The choice between OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification and Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD depends heavily on the merchant's specific challenges. If the primary concern is a high volume of fake or abandoned COD orders leading to significant RTO losses, OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification is the more suitable choice. Its straightforward OTP verification process directly addresses this issue.
However, if the goal is to offer customers more flexible payment options to increase sales and reduce RTO indirectly through prepayment, Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD is the better option. It allows merchants to implement partial payment plans and advanced COD rules, catering to customers who prefer to pay in installments. Partialy is more suited to merchants who want to proactively reduce COD payment risk while catering to customers who may be hesitant to pay the full amount upfront. It also allows them to attract buyers who can't afford to pay at all until they can physically hold an item.
