OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification vs Riskifiedfor Shopify (2026)
OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification and Riskified, while both categorized under 'Fraud' in the Shopify app store, address fundamentally different aspects of fraud prevention and target distinct merchant needs. OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification focuses on reducing instances of fake Cash on Delivery (COD) orders and Return-to-Origin (RTO) issues, common problems in specific geographic regions. It achieves this by verifying orders via OTP sent through WhatsApp, SMS, or Email before fulfillment and providing automated order status updates. This approach is proactive and designed to prevent losses before they occur. Riskified, on the other hand, provides a comprehensive fraud prevention solution using AI to analyze transactions in real-time, aiming to approve more legitimate orders while blocking fraudulent ones. The core difference lies in their scope and methodology. OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification is highly specific to COD-related issues in certain markets and utilizes direct customer interaction for verification. Riskified provides a broader, AI-driven fraud prevention platform encompassing various types of fraud, including credit card fraud, and offers full chargeback protection. It integrates deeper into the transaction process and provides end-to-end visibility, making it suitable for larger merchants with complex fraud detection needs.

Our Verdict
OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification is best suited for merchants primarily selling via Cash on Delivery in specific regions like India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Egypt who struggle with a high volume of fake orders and returns. Its simple OTP verification process offers a quick and effective solution to this localized problem. Riskified is a better fit for larger e-commerce businesses operating globally that require a robust, AI-driven fraud prevention system to protect against a wide range of fraudulent activities, including credit card fraud and chargebacks. The chargeback protection offered by Riskified provides significant financial security for high-volume businesses.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the merchant's specific business model, geographic reach, and the types of fraud they are most vulnerable to. If COD fraud is the primary concern in a specific region, OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification is the more cost-effective and targeted solution. If comprehensive fraud prevention across multiple payment methods and global markets is needed, Riskified is the better investment.
