Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay vs WeGetFinancing Messagingfor Shopify (2026)
Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay and WeGetFinancing Messaging both address payment flexibility, but they do so through fundamentally different approaches. Downpay focuses on internal, layaway-style split payments and deposits, directly managed by the merchant. It's designed for custom, made-to-order, and high-value items where longer lead times exist and staged payments can improve conversion. Key features include partial payment options, balance collection automation, and tech integrations with Shopify Flow and Hydrogen. WeGetFinancing Messaging, conversely, integrates external financing options directly into the product page. It enables customers to estimate their purchasing power and monthly payments based on their credit range, connecting them with a range of lenders. This is geared towards instantly assessing a customer's ability to finance through external credit. The app aims to increase click-through rates, ticket sizes, and conversion rates by offering immediate financing solutions. Therefore, while both are 'Payments' apps, one (Downpay) facilitates internal payment plans while the other (WeGetFinancing Messaging) is about external financing.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling custom, made-to-order, or high-value products with longer lead times, Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay is the more suitable option. Its white-label solution and focus on internal payment management provide control and flexibility. The ability to manage payments directly within Shopify, integrate with Shopify Flow, and offer a customer portal for managing split payments makes it ideal for this niche.
WeGetFinancing Messaging, on the other hand, is better suited for merchants aiming to increase overall sales by providing instant financing options to a broader customer base. If you want to instantly connect shoppers with external credit lenders for immediate purchasing power, WeGetFinancing Messaging is the clear choice. The app is aimed at instant credit decisions, rather than internal payment plans, and offers instant access to multiple credit options and streamlines the checkout process when a customer would otherwise abandon due to price.
Common Questions
What happens if a customer defaults on a payment?
With Downpay, the merchant handles the collection process, setting their own terms and policies. With WeGetFinancing, the external lender handles defaults according to their credit agreement with the customer.
Which app is easier to set up?
WeGetFinancing might be slightly easier initially, as it mainly involves integrating their messaging on product pages. Downpay might require more configuration to set up payment plans and integrate with Shopify Flow (if desired), and manual collection options, but this is highly merchant dependent.
Which app is more expensive?
The pricing for both apps is not included in the initial prompt. The actual cost would need to be determined to accurately answer.
Can I use both apps together?
Potentially, but it might be redundant. You could theoretically offer a deposit via Downpay *and* financing options via WeGetFinancing. However, this may complicate the customer experience by giving too many payment choices.
Which app gives me more control over the payment process?
Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay gives you significantly more control over the payment process, allowing you to manage payment schedules, automate charges, send invoices, and collect payments manually. WeGetFinancing hands off the financing and payment to external lenders, giving the merchant little control over the payment itself.
