POS Variable Priced Products vs Scan2Sellfor Shopify (2026)
POS Variable Priced Products and Scan2Sell address fundamentally different needs for Shopify merchants. POS Variable Priced Products caters specifically to retailers requiring flexible pricing at the point of sale, such as florists or vintage clothing sellers who need to adjust prices based on condition or customization. Its strength lies in its ability to integrate variable pricing seamlessly into the Shopify POS system, maintaining accurate inventory and reporting. It prioritizes the efficiency and accuracy of in-person sales with its feature set including automatic stock adjustment, inclusion of COGS, and special tax overrides. Scan2Sell, on the other hand, focuses on quickly bringing physical products online. Its primary value proposition is rapid product listing through barcode scanning and automated image sourcing, targeting merchants with substantial physical inventories who want to establish or improve their online presence. It streamlines the initial process of getting products online, focusing on speed and ease of product data entry. While both apps fall under the broader categories of 'Selling in person' and 'Retail', their core functionalities and target audiences are distinct, offering merchants solutions for different operational challenges. Both apps are positioned to save time and improve accuracy but in vastly different areas of retail operations. Our Verdict
The choice between POS Variable Priced Products and Scan2Sell depends heavily on the merchant's specific needs. If the primary concern is managing variable pricing effectively within the Shopify POS system, particularly with a need for detailed sales reporting and accurate inventory tracking, then POS Variable Priced Products is the clear choice. Its features are tailored to streamline in-person sales scenarios requiring flexible pricing.
However, if the priority is to quickly populate or expand an online product catalog from a substantial physical inventory, Scan2Sell is the more suitable option. Its barcode scanning and automated image sourcing significantly reduce the time and effort required for product data entry. It is also suitable for businesses with products from different suppliers. While Scan2Sell has a slightly higher rating, the low number of reviews suggests that it's a relatively new product, but it still fills a specific market need.
Common Questions
What if I need both variable pricing at POS and quick product listing?
These apps serve different functions. You might need both if you have variable priced products AND a large inventory to get online. These would supplement each other and would not conflict.
Is either app suitable for a purely online store?
Scan2Sell is more relevant, aiding in product onboarding. POS Variable Priced Products focuses on POS functionality and so wouldn't be useful.
How do the ratings compare considering the number of reviews?
While Scan2Sell has a slightly higher rating (5/5 vs 4.9/5), the low review count (5 vs 16) for Scan2Sell means the rating should be interpreted with caution. POS Variable Priced Products has a higher level of confidence due to greater community feedback.
Which app is easier to use?
Scan2Sell likely has a simpler initial setup, focusing on barcode scanning and data entry. POS Variable Priced Products involves deeper integration with the Shopify POS system and might require a slightly steeper learning curve depending on your comfort with POS integrations.
Can Scan2Sell handle variable prices?
Based on the provided information, Scan2Sell's strength is in rapidly onboarding product data. It does not appear to have specific functionality for directly managing variable prices after data is uploaded.
