Postgres Tools vs Selling Pointfor Shopify (2026)
Postgres Tools and Selling Point both fall under the 'Store data importer' category on Shopify, but they cater to vastly different needs. Postgres Tools focuses on exporting Shopify data (inventory, products, customer data) into a PostgreSQL database for businesses needing centralized data management, likely for integration with ERP or CRM systems. Its target audience are technically-minded merchants who need flexibility in customizing data fields and transformations. Selling Point, on the other hand, is designed for merchants migrating or importing gift cards and store credit data from other platforms into Shopify, aiming to simplify a traditionally manual or developer-dependent process. The core difference lies in their purpose: Postgres Tools is for data warehousing and integration, while Selling Point is a migration and marketing tool specifically for gift cards and store credit. Postgres Tools emphasizes integration with external databases and requires some understanding of data structures. Selling Point prioritizes ease of use and a quick, straightforward solution for importing gift card data, targeting merchants who lack technical expertise or the resources for custom development. The stark contrast in ratings and review counts further highlights the differences in user experience and perceived value.
