Preorder, Back in stock Duck vs ZeroOutfor Shopify (2026)
Preorder, Back in stock Duck and ZeroOut both address the challenge of out-of-stock products, but they employ significantly different strategies. Preorder, Back in stock Duck focuses on capturing demand even when products are unavailable, enabling pre-orders, backorders, and waitlists with 'notify me' features. This aims to recover lost sales by allowing customers to purchase or register interest in out-of-stock items. ZeroOut, on the other hand, aims to optimize the customer shopping experience by *hiding* out-of-stock products and focusing customer attention on available inventory, thereby preventing frustration and encouraging immediate sales. It also offers low-stock alerts to proactively manage inventory. The two apps target different merchant needs. Preorder, Back in stock Duck caters to stores that regularly restock popular items and want to capitalize on existing demand. Its strengths lie in maximizing potential revenue through pre-sales and back-in-stock notifications. ZeroOut is better suited for stores with limited inventory, a desire to present a clean and available product catalog, or who are less focused on backorders and more on presenting only what is currently ready to ship. The differing review counts (271 vs. 24) suggest Preorder, Back in stock Duck has a broader user base and longer track record, although ZeroOut's 4.8 rating indicates generally high satisfaction among its smaller user group.

Our Verdict
For merchants who want to capitalize on every potential sale, even for out-of-stock items, and have strong inventory restocking practices, Preorder, Back in stock Duck is the better choice. The ability to take pre-orders and generate waitlists can be a significant revenue driver. The larger number of reviews also gives confidence in its reliability.
However, if a merchant prioritizes a clean and optimized shopping experience focused on available products and wants to avoid customer frustration, ZeroOut is a more suitable option. Hiding out-of-stock items ensures customers only see what they can immediately purchase, potentially improving conversion rates. ZeroOut is beneficial for merchants with a curated product selection or those who don't frequently restock specific items.
