PriorNotify vs Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippyfor Shopify (2026)
PriorNotify and Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy are both Shopify apps listed under "Shipping solutions - Other", but they address entirely different needs and target different merchant types. PriorNotify focuses on regulatory compliance for food and beverage businesses shipping to the USA. Its core functionality is automating the FDA "Prior Notice" process and generating commercial invoices. Conversely, Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy is a serviceability validation tool, allowing customers to check if a product is available for delivery to their specific zip code. The primary difference lies in their purpose: PriorNotify handles a legal requirement for certain goods, while Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy enhances the customer experience by providing delivery information upfront. The user reviews also dramatically separate these apps. PriorNotify has no reviews and therefore no rating. Zipcode Checker - Zippy has a perfect 5/5 rating with 39 reviews, suggesting a good user experience and reliable service for what it offers.

Our Verdict
The choice between PriorNotify and Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy hinges entirely on the merchant's business needs. If you're selling food or drink products to customers in the USA, PriorNotify is essential for legal compliance, despite the lack of reviews. Ignoring Prior Notice requirements can lead to significant problems.
If, however, your business involves deliveries with geographical restrictions or you simply want to improve the customer experience by providing delivery availability information, Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy is the clear choice, with its positive user reviews and focus on ease of use and customization. Merchants with very complex serviceability needs will benefit most from Zippy.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy appears easier to set up, with a mention of "easy install" and "a few clicks activation." PriorNotify, dealing with regulatory compliance, may require more careful configuration and understanding of FDA requirements.
Does PriorNotify handle international shipping?
The description explicitly states it helps sell and ship food and drink products *to USA* customers. It focuses on USA FDA requirements. It is unclear if it supports imports to other countries or if it covers exports from the US.
Can Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy handle complex delivery rules?
Yes, the description mentions building "complex zipcode logic as per your requirements," including product and collection-specific logic.
What happens if I don't use PriorNotify when shipping food to the USA?
Failure to provide Prior Notice can result in refused entry of the food product, delays, and potential penalties from the FDA.
Is Zipcode Checker ‑ Zippy suitable for businesses that ship nationwide?
Potentially, but its core value lies in situations where *not all* zip codes are serviceable. If you ship to every zip code in the country, its functionality might be redundant.
