Protexia Password Page vs ThemeWatch ‑ Theme Backup Toolfor Shopify (2026)
Protexia Password Page and ThemeWatch ‑ Theme Backup Tool are both security-focused Shopify apps, but cater to drastically different needs. Protexia focuses on content access control, allowing merchants to password-protect specific pages without coding. This is positioned for merchants who need to restrict access to exclusive content, VIP areas, or private sales. ThemeWatch, on the other hand, concentrates on theme safety and version control. It offers automatic backups, manual backup creation, and change tracking, targeting merchants concerned about losing theme progress due to errors, app integrations, or modifications. The primary differentiator lies in their functionality: Protexia protects *content*, while ThemeWatch protects *code*. Protexia offers a simple solution to a common problem – Shopify's lack of built-in page-level password protection. ThemeWatch addresses a different problem – the risk of theme corruption and lost development work. Both claim ease of use, promising no coding required (Protexia) and easy restoration (ThemeWatch). Both are very highly rated, but have low numbers of reviews, suggesting they are either very new or niche.
